Probably moving to N. VA or Fredricksburg Area. I would like to live south of Nothern VA if possible so as to avoid traffic hell. I am going to need a job as well. I am a Network Admin./ IT Supervisor in an NT shop, Lotus Notes admin., ROLM telephone admin., ETC. ETC. ETC.

Any recommendations would be great.

"As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression.
In both instances there is a twilight when everything remains
seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all
must be most aware of change in the air - however slight -
lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness."
--Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas

It sounds like we are in the same basic line of work. I live in Alexandria. It is close enough in to not worry about the traffic and it is not DC. I have had no problems with the local PD on renewing my CCW. The local politicos are leaning hard to the left but they still follow the law mostly. It is a friendly town. (And not too expensive either.)

Richmond isnt that bad - there you have a the best gun shop ever - GREEN TOPS, and D&P Shooting Range on the south side - a dim little back water place but the low brows there let you get ripped off the good old fashioned way. At least they know a thing or too about shooting, but you have to get past that preoccupation with Hi Powers.
Sorry, Hickman!
:D

Really - those were my two favorite places in Richmond, next to Vito's Cafe near The Fan and the little BBQ trailer out side of Green Top.

Avoid Hampton Roads like the plague. I'm in IS for a healthcare provider and we're the folks who bring down the averages in all those IS/IT surveys you see.

Capital One is suppossed to be hiring.

Richmond is very nice. If you're looking to work in DC/Northern VA, I would recommend living as far south (read: close to Richmond) as possible.

Is everyone here familiar with HUD's "Teacher Next Door/Officer Next Door" programs? If you're willing to live in a not-so-posh neighborhood and are a teacher or LEO, you can get a HUD home for *half price* (yes, you read right!).

It worked for me! Check it out.

I live in Stafford County, just above F'burg. Great place, the County Clerk of Court (he signs the CCH permits), Treasurer, and Sheriff all were just re-elected and all were featured speakers at the local Friends of the NRA banquet. GEICO, and CAPITAL ONE are both mig employers in the county with others I cannot name. Lotsa of high tech and tele-commuting from here, since the Pentagon is only ;) 40 miles away. Nice atmosphere and its growing as refug..., unh excuse me, people from Northern VA (NoVa) migrate for quality of life.
You can still get 3-5 acre lots, or bigger, and be on county water. Shooting ranges are close by, both indoor and outdoor. As well as Quantico Marine Corp Base, if you join the shooting club (waiting list for pure civilians).
Pretty much local to all the necessities of life and still has no incorporated cities in the county, based on zoning it probably never will, thus preserving a rural atmosphere while gettting one of the most highly rated school systems in the state. Several people I have talked to believe the elementary schools are better here then in Fairfax County, home of the motto "if the students don't pass, spend more money on supplies and hardware and no raise for the teachers".

Anyways this is one of the best counties in VA, and it keeps the Marines between me and the liberal hordes of NoVa :D

Oh yeah I forgot, VA is a shall issue state :D

Capital One in Richmond is a very good employer. Richmond is a cool place. Greentop Sporting Goods is one of the largest gunshops in this part of the country.
Several ranges in the area.
2 hours from the beach or mountains.

Hey ATM, Im in King George. Its a small world isnt it, and I think we live in the best of it. I mentioned Dahlgren to Cassidy on the AR-15 board. Plenty of IT work without the commute and big city headaches. Feel free to email me at 101proof@skinsfans.com bumping into someone from my neck of the woods is damn cool.

Mr. Hill - D & P is looking at property in the same neighborhood and plans to have a new facility open within the year!!!! I need to remember to ask them if they are going to include ventilation in the plans. John P.S. - Buz and Ned's Real Barbeque has a storefront location off of I-95 in Richmond. Take the Boulevard exit south to 1119 N. Blvd. - they are next to the car wash and are in the phone book.
