I am interested in getting into shooting in some local matches. I was wondering where i could get a pistol chambered for 9x23 and also if anyone else shoots this round. I have heard some good things about it and would like to give it a try. Thanks

What type of matches are you planning on shooting? If it is IPSC, 9X23 won't be legal for limited/major. It is an open class round. There are a lot of gunsmiths who will build an open class gun in this caliber. E-mail me if you want some more specific info.

For IDPA, this caliber doesn't make a lot of sense. Shoot .45 in a 1911 gun, or .40 or 9mm in something else. No real good reason for 9X23 here.

If you must have a 9mm get a 38 Super.
More factory ammo and more brass available from more sources. The Super with a supported chamber can do anything a 9x23 can and has a larger rim which provides a bigger area for the extractor to bite. Whatever you end up with I highly recommend an AFTEC extractor. They are expensive but superb.

Better yet, just get a .45

My .o2 YMMV

Strider,

You are correct about the greater availability of brass and factory ammo for a Super. However, there is no factory .38 Super that will make IPSC major. Factory 9X23 will (is Winchester still loading this??).

I am not sure if the greater size of the rim on a .38 super is an advantage. This causes rim stack, which is a primary reason why such rimless cartridges as .38 Supercomp and .38 TJ were developed.

I do agree with the advice on the AFTEC extractor. This was developed by Rusty Kidd, the gunsmith that built my open gun. And i have never seen a more reliable race gun, ever.
