Greetings members,
I am looking for a .30 Luger Caliber-Browning/FN Hi power. I have been told that it would cost around $600+

Does it accept standard 9mm Magazines?
Are any Hi powers available in NIB condition, if so what would they cost?
Any experiences good or bad that you have had.
Thanks,
Anand

There were very few imported in .30 Luger. I have seen two. Both were fixed sight blued pistols with black plastic grips. These grip panels looked just like the standard wood panels, right down to the checkering pattern with the smooth border.
Both pistols had a raised rib a la the Mk II HP, but lacked the raised annular ring bushing of the Mk II. The interesting thing about the rib is that one had a wavy grooving like the rib on a Walther PP, and the other had a smooth rib.
Yes, standard 9 mm HiPower mags will work just fine.
It is a loooooong shot, but I did see one about 18 months ago at Cherry's Firearms in Greensboro, NC. Yes, it is probably long gone, but it just might still be there. Can't hurt.

Why not check with Browning. They make the HP in 7.65 P for countries where ownership of 9mm is banned.

You could always get the 9mm version and drop in a 7.65 barrel. Ron Shirk had MANY of these pistols when they imported them, about $235 each. They pop up for sale in Gun List every couple of months.

I'm surprised that the auction pistol has only one hi-cap. My .30 Luger BHP was made in the same year (1981, from the date code in the serial numbers), but came with two hi-caps, both marked 7.65mm. Perhaps the extra mag of the auction gun was lost with its box and papers. Regardless, it would be a neat gun to have--the .30 Luger BHP is a gem.

BTW, about ten years ago I called Browning to ask if any more of the 7.65mm-marked mags were available. Browning said no, because it had nothing to do with the .30 Luger pistols. IOW, despite the Browning Arms Company marking on the slide, the .30 Luger BHP was imported by someone else.

Yes, now in that photo, you can barely see the rib, and those are indeed the correct grip panels. Identical to the standard wood panels, but in black plastic. I had forgotten about the front sight base, and the pistol does appear to have the raised annular bushing, making it a MkII. A nice, scarce example of a HiPower.

Would an FN 7.65 barrel drop right in? I hope so, I just bought one on Ebay for 40 bucks shipped... if not I have the start of an interesting project.

According to The Blue Book, 1500 of them were imported back in the 80`s. Most were marked BAC on the slide but a few were marked FN. I would imagine used service pistols are imported from time to time but they`ll still be scarce. Nice variation to have though.

There is a dealer down here in South Florida who has had one for at least the last year. They are Weapons Unlimited 407-889-0842.

The amazing Weapons Unlimited. Partners in gunshow wonder brilliance with Gunland. I should leave it at that to avoid a slander or defamation lawsuit.

Here's your 30 Luger Hi-Power.

Enjoy!
