Where can I get .357 Magnum FMJ?

The range that I shoot at only allows FMJ or lead (no semi jacketed). They sell .357 reloads but they get stuck in the cylinder of my 686, so I don't use them any more (had to use a ram rod to get one of their stinking reloads out of my sweet, sweet 686's cylinder).

I've poked around a bit. Winchester does not sell .357 FMJ, nor does PMC, or Mag Tech, or Ammoman.

I've checked many gun shops with no luck.

What's the deal with that? Why is it impossible to walk into a gun shop and not trip over cases of .38 FMJ, but .357 FMJ seems to not exist (in my experience).

Any help appreciated.

Overman,
Fiocchi ofers a 142gr. T.C. FMJ load in .357 Mag.
It's a very clean and very stout load, but it's an FMJ! :D

Good Luck.

Check on the Gunbroker.com online auction site. There is usually someone selling the type of ammo you're looking for.

Also very accurate and quite inexpensive. I just bought 2 cases of it a month or so ago and have already won a couple of informal matches using it.

Fiocci where?

Where do you get cases of the Fiocci stuff? I scrounged a box (the box) at a local gun show, but it is hard to find retail around here. Looks really mean with that pointed cone bullet! I would like some more of that as compared to the fmj round nose stuff. I can load that but have not seen the cone bullet as a component.

I've shot a fair amount of the Fiocchi FMJ .357. It is quite stout.

Winchester also makes a 130-gr. FMJ., or at least they used to.

That stuff was positively nasty report wise.

Thanks, gents, that was very helpful.

Heh heh heh. That's part of the 'charm' of the .357, especially in an indoor range. One chick asked me what I was firing. She said she could feel it through the concrete floor. I especially like to bring the .357's out when the gang bangas come in with their Glocks, and show 'em what a revolver can do.

The Winchester stuff seemed to be a lot worse. The report was at a higher pitch or frequency or something.

If I want to rock someone's world, I pull out my Model 58 and the Remington 210-gr. JSP.

That makes people sit up, take notice, and move away.

Armscor also has a fmj 357 load.
Their website lists the velocity
at 1770fps from a 5.5" barrel.I
fired a box thru my 4" M-28 and
burned some hair off my fingers.

Winchester

I don't know about a Win. 130 grain magnum, but they do make a "white box" 130 gr. FMJRN 38 special, I believe, and I think it is equivalent to the old military 38 load as used by SP's etc. It is definitely not a wimpy load.

Stoutest FACTORY .357 Mag load I ever shot was either the Old Hornady Frontier 158gr JHP load or the old, old, old 125gr JHP Super-Vel load. :)
But, Fiocchi is by far the cleanest.

I also have a 686 6" and have found the S&B 158gr .357mag rd. to be a good accurate round and is also a very good penetrating round. the specs form the factory are 683ft lb. at the muzzle out of a 6" barrel and 1394 ft per second vol. the other rounds that i have shot along side the S&B didn't seem to have quite the punch the S&B ammo did. they also make a 158 gr. soft point that has some specs. would make a good defense load.

.357 Fmj

Do you reload or know someone who does? Ranier makes FMJ .38/.357 bullets. Have had good success with them. The lead .357 loads at decent velocities just lead too badly. They are available from Midway.
