Where can I buy lead?

I need to find a large chunk of lead to melt down for my .44 mag but I'm not very savvy on where to get it. Where do you get yours and how much do you pay for it??
 
Nice! Thanks fellas I am actually at work and a tire shop is attached to the building. Ill go give a Hollar back there first but those prices ain't bad at all.
 
Try Ebay. Look under "lead ingots". Last year I bought the lead ballast from a 28 foot sailboat on Ebay. More than a life time supply when it was cheap.
 
I used to buy mine from local plumber's supply houses.
They sell it in ingots, and unlike wheel weights, it's pretty pure lead.
 
I generally buy from the junk yard. I get plumber's lead most of the time. Once, I hit the jackpot and got 24 ingots of Lyman alloy for junk price.

Wheel weights are not lead, any more. I got the last bucket from OK Tires over a year ago.

Scrap or salvage yards should have lead scrap for sale. You can also buy shotgun shot and melt that down for casting. A 25 lb bag of shot would be good for about 700 240gr cast bullets.
 
Check garage sales for scuba weights.
Pure lead and usually cheap.
Just make sure they are completely dry before melting.
Captured water can become steam and act like a over pressured boiler.
 
Pops - forgive me if you already know this stuff but there is a little more to it than finding a hunk of lead, melting it and casting your own bullets.

If your new to casting get a book. ABC's of Reloading has a chapter on it or something dedicated to casting like:

You usually don't want straight lead because that will be really soft and might lead up your gun something fierce if you drive the bullets too fast.
