Where can I buy a Steyr Hahn m1912 handgun for cheap?

I was looking around and came across a gun I just had to have: The Steyr Hahn m1912. I love the way it loads and it just looks cool. However, the only ones I can find are either +$1,000 or are auctions on shady websites, and I was wondering where to buy one without spending a lot and without entering an auction. Thanks!
 
If they are selling for $1000+ on sale sites, or are in auctions, what makes you think you could just go buy one "cheap"? They haven't made any new ones in about 100 years, and there were never very many of them to begin with (mainly issued to NCOs and officers). So, rare seldom equals cheap.
 
If you look at completed auctions on gunbroker, most seem to be selling in the $600 to $650 range, with one going as low as $350. So take your time, and don't go crazy on one you just have to have even if the price goes beyond that.
 
I got mine from a forum member (pirate sale) for $350. It is neat, but not without shortcomings.

The cartridges, 9mm Steyr, are hard to find. I will handload but haven't had time to gather things needed. So haven't shot it yet.

The trigger pull is spongy. Similar to mosin Nagant, the sear is a big leaf spring. It can be improved, but not much.

The steep grip angle is awkward.

Neat piece in collection if you are into that sort of things.

Haunt your local estate sales and auctions, I've seen two of them sell for under $300 in the last few years.

I think Fiocchi and PPU make ammo for these, but you can get a set of dies and reload for big savings.
 
Like several other pistols made by Steyr, the Steyr-Hahn (Steyr-Hammer pistol) magazine is not detachable and is loaded from the top from a "stripper" clip, like a Mauser rifle.

There are several arguments in favor of that system (losing the magazine is impossible), but the detachable magazine system pioneered by Borchardt (and carried over to the Luger and other pistols) proved superior.

The barrel of the Steyr-Hahn turns to unlock, a system which has been used most recently by Beretta (in a less compact form) and which allows excellent accuracy because the barrel does not tilt or tip, only move in a straight line.

Im a fan of the platform also. I myself am looking for an example to add to my collection. Between the M1912 and M1907 and leaning toward the M1907 because I can find examples manufactured at Femaru Budapest. I have seen some examples in lesser condition go as cheep as high $600s
 
I have a feeling that many of these firearms are going to go up in cost a little bit with the recent popularity of the WWI era Battlefield video game and the associated YouTube content displaying the real counterpart firearms. Just a guess.

There's a repro holster too.
9mm Steyr is dimensionally different than 9 x 23. Case head and case length are different. Rumoured that it can be made out of .223. Or you can buy it. Graf's lists PCI ammo at $23.99 per 50. They also list Starline brass at $20.99 per 100.
Supposedly .38 Super dies and regular 115 grain 9mm Parabellum data. RCBS 9mm Steyr dies are at Midway for astronomical prices too.
 
The reserved price hasn't been met yet. Current bid is $400. 4 hours to go. I think it will have to be over $500.
