Where are all the revolvers?

Does anyone know if S&W and Ruger are even making or shipping any revolvers to their distributors? I've spoke to many leading distributors and they all say that if they receive any at all that it's a pitifull small amount and the time lag in between receiving any is usually months. I thought just about all gun and ammo manufacturers were working 24/7 to meet the demand. This same question I have for revolvers also applies to ammo. Where is all the 22 LR and 22 Mag ammo?

Ruger is, can't comment on S&W. I see brand new SP101s, GP100s and plenty of single-actions at local gun shops.

My local dealer has both 686 and 686+ in stock as well as a few other new S&W revolvers. And it's not even a huge dealer. They have may be a hundred guns altogether.
I think all these talks about shortage, while valid, are a little inflated. Ammo is widely available online and in the shops for most common calibers too. It's an inexpensive ammo that is a problem. I go to a local range weekly shooting .38 Special and .22LR and they always have it in stock. Now, who wants to pay $22 for a box of basic .38 Specials? That's another story. But they do have it, although they limit the quantities. But since they know me they always allow me to buy more than the limit, which means they have plenty. All the time...

The only Smiths and Rugers I've seen round here are all used, but Academy always seem to have those toy Tauruses (seriously, name one person who is going to buy a green and white .38) and a couple off brand .22s

They do tend to make what they believe they need to fill the needs of the public for a given time frame. No more than that as many assembly lines then switch to the next handgun design in the lineup or simply have less people making a certain model do to slower sales. Been that way for many years. With companies adding new firearms to there lineup people have more choices and tend to not buy some of the older standards in the same numbers they did before the newer choices came along. All about supply and demand. Occasionally demand out places supply!! ??

At Guns and Ammo on Summer Avenue in Memphis you can pretty well pick out what you like. Doesn't seem to be any shortage. Same is true for Classic Arms on Germantown Parkway.

And both have a mouth-waterin' array of Single Actions.

Wow! The shops I visit in my area have few new revolvers and almost no used ones (of any quality). And thats way better than ammo or components. I don't know where all this "24/7" production is going but it's not where I shop.

My local dealer here in Ct have a good number of Rugers. A small amount of Smiths but good ammo is hard to get around here..

My LGS has one Ruger and few Smiths, an SP101, and, mostly J-Frames, although I did see a 629 in the case this afternoon.

Foghorn, I've been at two shops the last two days.

The first had two SP101s both tagged $699. Although they said they were willing to deal, I couldn't get then down to a point I could live with. (Beltway Gun and Pawn in Matthews NC)

The other was $599. (Firepower Inc, Matthews NC)

To me, both were crazy prices...but maybe not, I'd been out of the shooting sports for awhile so I'm trying to adjust my frame of reference.

I bought a Smith 642 PC instead.

I've been trying to find one of the small Smith .38/.357 snub noses in stainless. Not the big "L" frame .357. Been looking for a year - all I ever see are those aluminum frame Charter Arms in pink or blue or a Taurus. I don't want a Taurus, I want a Smith. Where are they?
