Where are all the CZ75's?

First time buyer here. I've decided my first gun will be a full size pistol. After a lot of research and range rentals I had decided on a Glock 17 Gen 4........until I met my buddy today and shot his CZ75B. I am sold! I had read a lot of good things about them, but took it with a grain of salt. Boy were they right. Really easy gun to shoot and very accurate. Grip feels great in your hand. Loved it. When I got home I started snooping around online and NO ONE has anything in stock. As a lefty, I will probably get the 85 B, but there are none of those out there either. Any idea on why they are scarce? Anxious to get one. Happy Holidays to all!

I've owned a CZ 75BD for several years, bought a P07 a few weeks ago and for me, it far exceeds the 75. Try a P07 or P09 before you buy. Just my opinion.

CZ generally does not do a very good job of keeping a consistent good stock level in US. With election and holiday it is not surprising they are scarce.

Oak Hills guns has some CZs in stock including SP01s but those will probably go fast.

Tombstone Tactical reports they have CZ 85B in stock as of now.

Otherwise sign up for email alerts at web stores that normally stock CZs such as Oak Hills, KYgunco, Buds, and Grabagun.

I had to wait a while before I found my CZ75 compact. My dealer works with Davison's. Love the gun, very solid feel, totally reliable, a little heavy to carry around. As I recall, there were not a lot of CZ's on the dealer shelfs when I wanted one.

My local gun pusher had a CZ 75 BD Police come in on trade yesterday. It is like new with box, extra magazine, test target, manual, bore brushs and all for $450. I'd been wanting one for a while and I was on it like white on rice. Hopefully this stinking weather will break and I can shoot it a little pretty soon.

There are quite a few on Gunbroker.

It is a sturdy pistol. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a used one in nice condition.

Many companies make good "clones" of it. My shooting buddy and I actually prefer my Tanfoglio TA-90 to his CZ75. They are the same gun, but mine is built on the slightly larger frame and has an unusually good trigger. The Tanfoglios have also been sold in the US as the "EAA Witness". There are also good Turkish clones, and IIRC, Israeli as well.

Kind of luck of the draw...

I talked to my main FFL when I was looking for one, and he didn't stock them at all. Had Glocks, XDs, and M&Ps... but no CZs at all.

Looked around online, and found a dealer a little further than him that had a stainless, 85, and SP-01 in stock. Originally was between the 85 and stainless, but hated the slide release on the 85 (felt awkward, and I like to shoot weak hand for practice). Picked up the SP-01, and the price was cheaper than the stainless... but a lot more fun for the money. Little things like night sights really put me over, and I picked it up.

Really like the SP-01. Don't regret going with it, and adding a Kadet kit is very fun. I didn't like the finish of the barrel, but sent it, a stainless guide rod, and grip screws out to CCR for cera-plating. Came back looking great.

CZ is like a lot of gunmakers -- they tool up and make their various models in lots. And then they switch to another model and do another production run. So at different times CZ pistols will be plentiful and rifles will be scarce, and so on. You see the same thing with S&Ws. Sometimes their popular revolvers are all over the place; other times nowhere to be found.

I agree about timing. I have a 85b and a P-07 and at the time both were pretty easy to find. I have looked on other occasions and the same pistols were unobtainium. IF you want an exercise in frustration, try finding a P01 Omega new, not on GB.

CZ runs guns in batches kind of like Colt does. When they have run a batch of a particular model you see them everywhere and then the supply dries up. You have to be patient and be ready to buy when they hit the shores.

I've had an open order with my dealer since early November for a CZ75...getting it next week would be great as I am using my balance of vacation days to take the Christmas/New Year's week off.

As others have said here, I tried my buddy's and the trigger and feel of the gun in my hand was an epiphany. Had to have one.

I recently bought a pre B CZ 75 on GB for under $350. They are around but you do have to shop a bit and be patient. The pre B has a much better trigger pull than the "B" versions but the baked on black finish usually flakes and chips. ( I bought a brushed nickel, which does not do that).

Keep shopping around and be ready to pounce. These are tremendous pistols and still underrated and perhaps even misunderstood, they are also uncommon.

Some of the oldest pre-Bs did have a crappy baked-on finish... and it's a mess. (I've had a couple of those, over the years.)

If yours is brushed nickel, it has been refinished -- as CZ never made nickel-plated pre-Bs, and a "brushed" finish isn't one they've ever offered. (They only do satin nickel and, now, stainless.) That's either an after-market nickel finish, or a gun that is in the "white" (i.e., no finish) -- I've seen a few pre-B's that come to the U.S. that way, surplus from the Middle East. With just a little care (and periodic wipe downs with a treated rag (oil, CLP, etc.), they hold up very well -- and look great.

If yours has the small pin-hole in the safety lever, be sure to insert a pin in that hole if you ever have to take the safety out -- doing that secures the spring. The oldest ones are made that way. That little spring inside goes "walkabout" pretty easily, and they're no longer available anywhere here in the U.S. -- may never have been. Newer safety lever won't work, as they are part of a totaly redisigned safety system. (Late pre-Bs are very much like the B models, just without the firing pin block mechanism.)

Correction:

By reading my Fjestad Blue Book thoroughly, I found that Action Arms MIGHT HAVE imported a number of CZs in a variety of finishes. (I've owned two AA CZs, both blued -- but not polycoated.)

If you have an Action Arms import mark, you may truly have a brushed nickel (or brushed chrome) Pre-B, and a relatively rare one, at that. I doubt it would be considered collectible, but it might have a little extra value! According to the Blue Book,

...the CZ-75 Special Edition imported by Action Arms in '93-'94: Matte nickel, bright nickel, matte chrome, brushed chrome, bright chrome, or gold frame with gold or Hi-gloss blued slide, with gold accents.

I'll bet Saddam Hussein had one of those "gold"-accented ones.

I have never seen a CZ in any of my LGS display cases. The funny thing is I have seen a lot of clones and you ask the guy behind the counter about CZ75s and everyone has respect for them. [shrug]

I've had to order every one of mine online.
