Was at a gun show in a bad part of town . Not much of a crowd out side like most shows I go too no security visible except at the door .First & the last time i will go there. I FELT LIKE EASY PICKINS.

The only time I feel like a victum at a gun show is at the door and paying the ridulously high admission price. IMHO, there should not be any admission price. The dealers pay for table space and that is where the profits are made.

Never promoted a gun show have ya? You really think the price of the table space covered the expense of the security, the building, the insurance, etc? :roll eyes: Not even close! But if you think those tables cover it all and make the profit worthwhile, how 'bout promoting one yourself. :p
Now if you feel like a vitum paying the admission cost, why keep going? :D

I pay to park, I pay to get in, if I want a coke I pay twice the normal price. Prices are no better than the local shops. If you buy a bum gun then lots of luck on getting warranty service or God forbid getting your money back. For less money I can order leather gear or accessories on line.
If you're guessing I don't frequent Gun Shows then you're guessing right. The only time I try to make one is if I'm dumping a bum gun which I have done on occasion.

I really enjoy going to gun shows

Not because you have such a large selection of jerky, knives, and cheap jewelry, but because it's fun to see the whole spectrum of guns on display and have the chance to pick them an feel them, to see all the products next to each other, and to wander along with a crowd that also likes guns. I love seeing people bring their kids and watch the kids interact with some of the geezers behind the table who tell the kids some of the histories - personal and overall. I love seeing the folks who are selling face-to-face parading around with for-sale flags sticking out of gun muzzles; stop one and ask them about it and you'll get a whole story most times. I love being in a crowd that accepts that I like guns - just like they do - without having to hem and haw and explain myself to anyone about it.

Gun show admission prices are usually lower than what you pay to see a movie - and there's more entertainment that engages more senses than anything Warner Brothers or MGM can produce. I feel much more like a victim with what I pay for popcorn at the movies than what I pay for admission to a gun show.

So, in my opinion, if you feel like a victim going to a gun show, you really should expand your view. If you can't do that - don't go.

Ummmmm really confused here, gun shows would seem to be pretty poor choice to jack someone. Every gun show I have been to folks are polite and look out for one another, I would bet the chances of getting a lost wallet back at a gunshow is much better than at most other places. Folks I meet at these venues just seem like stand up, do the right thing people. Yeah there is always someone who does not watch their kids or who wants to dry fire a gun they should not but these things sort themselves out quick enough.

I don't personally consider security guards being somewhere or not a sign of safety. Just my take on things, most security is more window dressing than anything. Not to mention that guard companies vary from very good and together to uniformed felons.

As to gun show prices, it is what it is, i don't mind as it's a nice half day entertainment. Plus for used I far prefer to buy in person. Not to mention for all the small accessory bits gun shows save a ton of money, I likely have 600 retail in leather that all cams from gun shows and if I spent 100 bucks on it all I would be surprised.

Count me among the whiners. Gun shows used to have good guns, good prices and good assortment of rare parts. Friendly, knowledgable dealers who worked with you on prices. Now they're overpriced with vendors with bad attitudes who act like their doing you a favor. Glorified flea markets! Everything but guns! I quite going(paying someone to rip me off) a long time back!

What do people really expect from a gun show? A gun show is entertainment, which is why there's a fee. We (some of us anyway) go to look at guns and people and to kill a few hours. I don't go there actually expecting there to be a great bargain on a gun. If you find one, that's great, but don't realistically expect to get a great gun at a low price. You can find better prices on the internet, and you can see a picture of it, but you can't handle it like you can at a gun show. And I'll admit that I love the back and forth of a good price negotiation.

Just go and enjoy it for what it is. If you can't enjoy the spectacle, you shouldn't be there. Just go...you might really find a bargain. You might...

Dannyb very nicely summed up my feelings on this subject. I view gun shows as a form of entertainment and as an opportunity to commune with others who like guns.

I much prefer a gun show to a movie theater and deals can be found by those who know what to look for.

I look at gun shows as a way to see and (if allowed) handle a lot of guns and assess prices. Also I can see some of the newer faking techniques so I can spot them later.

Do I buy? Sure, when it is something I want and the price is right, same as anywhere else. But the gun shops in the area have a pretty limited inventory and not much turnover on the stuff I am interested in, so a gun show gives me a chance to get a look at a wider selection as well as (usually) a selection of books.

I do agree, though, that more and more gun shows are becoming a sales place for "tactical" sh*t and ridiculous edged "weapons" that belong in a fantasy movie. Too bad. I would rather look at guns than at black nylon tactical jock straps.

I love going to gun shows

It is one of the few things which is uniquely American. Can you imagine going to one in Russia, China, etc.? Smile, we are the lucky few to enjoy this kind of entertainment.

I think this varies from show to show and area to area. I've been to some that have more junk than guns but I've also been to some good ones. I've also found a few decent deals at shows locally but you have to dig for them. I usually make 2-3 laps around the show before I decide if I'm buying anything. I always miss something on the first pass and sometimes on the second pass just due to the sheer volume of people. The last 3 guns I bought were purchased at gun shows and felt I got good buys on all of them. Gun shows are also about the only game in town for reloading components around here so I have to go just to keep stocked.

I used to envy those who live in Texas, but when I read some of the complaints about the gun shows and look at the avatar and it says Texas I wonder.
Not all gun shows in my area are great, but several do have guys with decent prices, minimal "other" stuff, and $1 can soda, $2 can beer (some), and $2 hamburgers and hot dogs.
How I feel when I go into a gun show? Like a kid in a candy store!
How do I feel when I leave a gun show? BROKE!!!

I live in Austin and gun shows suck out loud here.

Went to one about a month ago and there weren't 3 guns I would have taken as a gift.

Junk guns and non gun junk like jerkey.

Wow, this got ugly quick. I understand the disdain for some of the shenanigans that go on at gun shows. However, attacking other members is not something we do here.
