When to buy a bow? X-mas for son

I would like to get a real bow for my 13yo for x-mas. (Not a youth toy)

It's hunting season right now in Il and x-mas is in a few weeks. Are bows like golf clubs where after the season people dump them on eBay for next years technology? If now is a bad time, I could wait until after the new year.

I would prefer to get a used bow and take it to my local archery shop for fitting.

The idea would be to get him comfortable with shooting, develop some upper body strength and then in a few years get a good bow we could both use for deer.

Anyway... I'm sure it is also seasonal. You can probably get the best deal right before the season when people are dumping last year's stuff to get the new stuff. Or, right after when they discovered their son has outgrown it.
