When SHTF, what would you bring?

In light of the recent natural disasters, petrol shortages, the near collapse of our banking system and recent B&Es in my town; I have had visions of a Road Warrior movie like scenario. My question is does anyone have an emergency pack made up in the case of an emergency bug out? What firearms would you bring? I figure you would need some water, food, a wind up radio, flashlights as well as other provisions like you would bring if you were on a camping trip.
The firearms I own:
Henry 22lr lever action
Winchester 94 Trapper in .357 mag
20 ga. dbl bbl Stoeger Coachgun
9mm Stoeger Cougar semi auto.
I would try and bring them all with as much ammo as I can carry, but if I could only bring 2, it would probably be the semi auto Cougar and the shotgun.
Our government has told us to have an emergency pack made up so I don't think I am too wacked out being concerned about this. Any opinions? BTW, I do sleep well at night!

- Colt 6920 AR15 with as many mags as I can carry.
- Kimber Desert Warrior .45ACP and/or a M9 Beretta
- body armor depending on the location

- If i'm not mobile a rifle (AR10, Springfield M1A, 700 Remington) in .308 would be a welcome addition.

- In some instances a type of water purification might be more important than a firearm. As all the guns and ammo in the world are useless after a few days of dehydration.

You have to keep in mind, if you dont reload, what ammunition will be most available as it'll go fast, hoarded, looted, etc. 5k rounds or more of 5.56. A suppressed firearm would be nice.

I'd prefer being the furthest away from civilization as possible as your greatest threats are probably lack of water and other human beings. Dogs will go feral pretty fast I bet. I'd reckon big cities would be quite a bit more dangerous than the country. Drastic situations will turn even the most liberal persons to doing things harsh and brutal for survival that they couldn't dream possible. Gangs will form (not Bloods and Crips) and people will fight over control of vital resources.

Good point High Plains, I'll have to think about that.
Cat, you paint a very bleak picture! Bleak but probably closer to reality than we would care to admit. I had thought of the water purification scenario, so in addition to what water I can bring along I think a purificaition system would be good to have.
I also figure that the firearms would be as much for food as self defence.
Now that I am thinking of it my bug out essential provisions should be:
Water and purification system
Non perishable food
2 changes of clothing with extra socks and underwear (Mom told me that clean underwear is important!)
Sweathshirt and jacket for layers
Knife and multitool
wind up radio
a couple of flashlights including a wind up one
sleeping bag
tent
first aid kit
map and compass
My guns, along with at least 100 rounds of ammo for each
All this is assuming I am able to use my vehicle, of not I would have to pare this list down a bit.

i don't think things will ever get as bad as some previous posters say (at least i hope not.)
If things got funky i head for a secluded camp spot on a nice creek about 30 mi away (15 of which is 4wd only) with my mossy 12 and either the kel-tec su-16 or m1 carbine. i have a few camping supply's but upon reading this i realize im greatly unprepared for red dawn.

T
WOLVERINES!!!!
that movie sucks

I keep all my camping equipment is to storage totes, I am an assistant scout master so I keep everything ready to go. I have had to implement this disaster plan is short form due to two major power outages where our city was without power for several weeks at a time. Like others have said here I am making another tote full of ammo and reloading supplies and small press and dies for my 45, 357, and 308. Also have one of those small take down 22 rifles that stays in the camping box. My in-laws own 200 in the country about 80 miles from the city, that is where I will be with the family. My wife thought that I was crazy till the first power outage, when everyone else was scrambling we had the generator running and making our own power. I live in a city that is racially divided and has seen it's share of riots and police action. When it hits the fan we load up and hit the hills.

Scoutmaster, good man! While I have never been a boy scout, my wife refers to me as one because I always have stuff on me or in my briefcase such as knives, a multitool, aspirin, pepto bismol, cold medication, kleenex (ever had to hit the woods and use leaves to wipe?) and spare change . I keep a backback in my truck with a change of clothes and a toothbrush. I have used all this stuff at one time or another.

After a little thought i'de have to drive for the hills to my brothers house,287 wooded acres with all kinds of woodland critters.:D.As for items to carry out,a canoe(he lives near a big lake, fishing).A 3 day personal pack with mre's for both my wife and i plus kids.Firearms for me,12 gauge,S&W 686 4 inch and my snubbie. My wife with her 410 and her snubbie and all the ammo we have. Also a couple handheld radio's for around the house and in the woods.Whatever else i can throw in my car.Now if i have to get out in a real hurry with absolutly no time at all, this will have to do.

I live far enough back that I should be able to just ford-up in place and do fine.
I have enough stores to eat about 1 year, early warning sensors with 1,000 feet range. Generator with flexfuel ablity
Place to grow food and a place to go to ground if needed. Always travel with means to get back home.

I'd be surprised if this thread lasted much longer as TFL has a policy against SHTF and TEOTWAWKI threads.

Not to be a party-pooper, but I'm just giving y'all a heads-up.

I would think outside an urban enviroment the shotgun would have limited use. Ammunition is heavy, bulky and you'll be very restricted in how much you can physically carry. It would be ideal in a city but id rather go with an M4 for close quarters as it's going to be able to penetrate body armor and other mediums with the right dope. Once you get outside 50 yards you better start thinking about a rifle.

As for hunting a rifle is much more practical.

Y'all are right it would probably never get that bad, but Im thinking of what BBQBOB said referring to Mad Max / Road Warrior scenario. If you're hunkered down in your house, which wont have running water, electricity and a finite amount of food, a shotgun would be ideal no doubt.

oh man sorry I was completely unaware. I'll cease posting!

If all goes to hell and the Government ceases to adequately function, I'll be packing my AR-15, with a black hawk vest and my 1911 in a drop leg holster. I'd do it because i have the most AR-15 magazines, and it has a BUIS + a holo-optic.

Probably give the AK to my roomie...

Eitherway, I really, really hope, and expect the government to function like it should be. :o

It's a tough choice between the Henry and the Trapper. Either one gets you a *lot* of ammo with nowhere near the weight of the shotgun. The 9mm Couger is a pistol, right? Bring it too.

And a bottle of iodine. You can use it for a topical antiseptic *and* for purifying water.

xcvbob, Yeah the Cougar is a 9mm pistol with 15 rd mag. I figure I would load up three mags and take a couple of boxes of ammo for that gun. The Trapper ammo doesn't take up much room and is potent. The reason for the double barreled shotgun is it was well known that in the old west the shotgun was what every household and/or wagon had. So it stands to reason that anything that seemed that essential in the frontier must be good. Good for hunting with various loads and self defence.
