For six months I have been searching high and low for a particular revolver. Been outbid on Gunbroker several times. Had a few offered at prices I couldn't meet. Had a couple get bought out from under me before I could get through to the sellers. All very frustrating.

Then today in my email inbox was a note from a member on another forum who saw my want to buy post and offered me exactly what I wanted at 2/3 the amount I was willing to spend. I quickly agreed and made arrangements to send payment to his FFL who will ship it.

Then when I hit the send button and my inbox opened again, there was a another message from another forum member. A local pawn shop has one as well, priced at about 1/3 of my spending limit because it's been refinished. I want a shooter grade gun, anyway. I already agreed to the earlier deal so I will buy that gun.

But I just may have to buy both of them.

If I do the math, 2/3 for the first and 1/3rd for the second = TWO hens teeth instead of one! How can you not buy this "mystery" gun?

Was looking for a 4.75" Colt SAA in 45 caliber. I was willing to pay up to $1,800 based on condition. Was offered a 1982 model in unfired condition. Owner bought it to have it engraved as a showpiece but it has a small flaw in that there is a tiny gap at the top of the grip frame. Typical QC issue of Colts from the 1980s. He sent a photo so I could see it. He couldn't stand it, I was looking for a shooter and can live with such a small imperfection. He offered it to me for $1,150 and I agreed.

The other one is a 7.5" 45 with a bad refinish offered at $600. I'm thinking I could have it nickel plated and have about $850 in it.

Another offer just came in. A rebuilt 1st Generation shooter. Didn't state a price so I asked. A plethora of Colts is descending upon me...

I wish I could have a storm of S&W 27s with 3 1/2" barrels rain upon me for a steal of a price. Oh well, I 'm poor at the moment, so, maybe I shouldn't wish for such things.

That has happened to me several times. The best (or worst) was some years ago. I had long wanted a decent Krag, but all I saw was junk. Then, in the course of a couple of months, I found a 98 rifle, a 96 rifle, a 96 carbine, a 98 carbine and a 99 carbine, all in very good condition at "steal" prices. I got them all, but for a while I "owed my soul" to the credit card company. Of course, my investment has at least doubled, but at the time my gun buying budget took a hit.

Well Saxon, you're pretty lucky.
I've been looking for a new production 3rd Gen Colt SAA in .357 for about 6 months, and have yet to find one. it seems that Colt makes very few of them any more.
So I may just have to be satisfied with a Ruger New Vaquero - which will be less than half what a Colt would cost, but they are very nice guns.
