I would have maybe expected a 2 year shortage but we are literally living through a near "Ban" on the Rimfires! t's been years since I ZVPjust went into a store and was able to just buy all the .22's I wanted!
Heck even get just ONE Brick of them!
I own about 8-10 rimfires and only keep shells (i only have 500) for 2 self protection guns. The others just get wiped clean and never get shot.
Well MR Obama has pretty well made a shambles of the Constitution and we'd better protect the rest by joining groups like the NRA and Stae shooting orginizations! I know this is a huge group doing all this but we are bigger!!!
Please try and help the effort or ALL Ammunition will disappear!

Dunno. People are still hoarding them here in So CO. Someone told me of a fellow who bragged of having 50,000 rounds of 22 LR.

There are folks who have contacts at Wally World. They get calls whenever a delivery is made, rush over to hoard them and leave none for the rest of us.

Doubt supplies will catch up for at least 6-12 months. Maybe longer. Most who got caught short will try to stock up better soon as they can find some.

People are still buying every .22lr produced.
People aren't shooting their .22's much anymore from what I'm seeing
Manufacturers are producing .22lr like gangbusters still

All this means to me that at some point, people will be glutted with .22lr. Then prices will have to drop to get people to add to the pile they have accumulated....people will start shooting again...
Supply and demand will reach an equilibrium again.

honestly, I predict some of the cheapest .22lr ammo we've seen in years once this artificial demand is satiated. The kicker is how long that will take.

Heck, at this point after this one is done I don't think another panic/shortage is even possible for a while, with all the .22lr people have had to be accumulating.

I have seen improvements in availability. My local Academy did not have any .38 for a while. As of a few months ago they began to keep a few boxes on the shelves. Now they have a full shelf of a variety of .38. Same with 9mm, and my local Walmart even has a few 1200 round cans of 9mm Federal and a 420 round can of 5.56 Federal. Supply is definitely catching up slowly. I asked my Walmart and they say that they haven't even gotten a shipment of .22 in months. Academy carries only three boxes per rimfire firearm they sell. If you don't buy a firearm, then you can't buy the ammo! I got excited when I saw that J&G Sales had a bulk pack of .22, until I read that it was 1980's production that comes with a warning that they will not meet specs and some will be defective - this being $200 for 2000 rounds - penny a piece. For so many rounds, I could get new production ammo for the same price a few year ago. It's something, but not for me and I wouldn't trust it, but that's just me trying to find fault with everything. :p As for new production .22, I saw some .22 Federal at a gun show a couple weeks ago. $7.50 for a box of 50!! What did they cost a few years ago, $2 a box? Cabela's and Academy have had none when I go to the local stores, Cabela's website has none at all in stock, and Academy lists that they have it in stock but you cannot order it online. The only sources I have found for new production is gun shows and it's way too pricey. I wouldn't pay more than $3.50 a box for Federal .22. $7.50 is outrageous, but I guess when you can't find it anywhere else people will pay more. Hope you'll find some cheap.

That's actually 10 cents per for that old ammo.

We'll, I can buy 22 LR every day of the week here in central oh, but the price is high like $6 for 50. Recently they had 500 for $50. 2 box limit. This was a month ago. If I remember, I'll check again and report back. They also had 1400 in a bucket for $99. For a few weeks.

At a different place, I saw 8 lb jugs of rifle powder, but at full price $155.

It will persist so long the demand is high and the supply is low, that and so long as people continue to be willing to fork out $100+ per brick. I personally refuse to pay that much, and pick up a box here, a box there whenever I find them at a reasonable price.
