When Changing AR Uppers Do You Change The Buffer Also?

I have a 16" mid lenght upper on my current BCM AR and am looking to get a additional 11.5" carbine lenght upper. The BCM page that shows this 11.5 upper also shows three "accessory" carbine buffers. When switching from the 16" upper to the 11.5" upper will the same buffer work or is this one of those try it out first and change it if the AR does not cycle properly? I was hoping that the same buffer might work for both uppers. Thanks...

The gun should be fine with whatever buffer you have. Carbine, H, H2, or H3 should be fine.

Oh and fine choice of MFG ;) i have two BCMs myself.

You may need to change it... You may not. When you go that short its a crap-shoot. I like to have a selection of different weight buffers anyway.

Carbine buffer is 3.0oz
H buffer is 3.8oz
H2 buffer is 4.6oz
H3 buffer is 5.4oz

Spikes
ST-T1 is 3.0oz
ST-T2 is 4.3oz
ST-T3 is 5.4oz

All weights can be +/- .1oz

Use the heaviest buffer you can that still allows the weapon the function normally.

I use a ST-T2 in my 10.5" upper.

You are aware the 11.5 upper well require you the get a SBR stamp for the lower, or use a pistol lower?

You only need to change the buffer if you change the action spring or BCG.

When I changed the BCG to a full-auto part in my M&P15, I also changed to a H2 buffer and a Sprinco blue action spring.

as long as it's the same caliber you should be fine with the same buffer. now if you are jumping between 5.56, 5.45 and 9mm then different buffers would probably be a good idea.
