Wheelgun Hunting Holsters

I have an old school cowboy type leather belt/holster for my .44 mag SBH. It holds rounds in the belt and the actual holster is low slung. Have an 8.5 in barrel, holster is long enough to tie the end to my thigh if I am in heavy brush. Overall I like it, and it is comfortable enough. The belt is about four inches wide. It also fits over anything I wear which gives it and advantage over a belt attached holster if you are wearing a long coat

Uncle Mikes

I like an Uncle Mikes vertical shoulder hoster. Holds my 8.5" Smith Model 29 and has space for accessories on off-side. I like the six round cartridge slide for that. It takes up less room than a speedloader case and 12 is generally all I want for actual hunting. Extra ammo can go in pockets, pack, etc. i do like to make sure that the tie downs are secured to a stout belt to keep revolver from bouncing around on my hip and ribs.

I've got a Ruger Super Redhawk with 9.5" barrel and Leupold 2x scope. I bought one of those Uncle Mike Bandolier holsters. You carry it on your chest. The strap goes over one arm and head. You adjust the strap until it hangs just right. You can even attach it to your belt in that position although I've never used mine that way. It has a flap that covers the gun and snaps down. I like covered holsters in field guns but you can remove it if you like.

It's the only comfortable way I've found to carry that monster around in deer woods!

Has any one tryied the Freedom Arms holsters? It looks like they are the only nice leather ones for something over 8 inches without waiting for the custom jobs.
