Preference?

For what type of shooting? What type of gun?
For Bullseye matches, I like a red dot.
For rifle match shooting, I like apertures front and rear - that would be in the iron family.
For hunting, with a rifle - none of the above; I use a glass and crosshair scope. For hunting with a pistol - My T/C Contender and Encore both wear red dots.

I'm a dinosaur who grew up on iron sights and have trouble focusing using the red dot. Skill set not in my hard drive yet.

I like iron sights, for the most part. I have been considering adding some new sights to some of my long-guns, but don't get around to shooting them much to make it worth the investment.

I am considering a new .223 auto-loader with a red-dot, but its pretty far down on my list of expenses right now.

I put my vote in for red dots. While i like them better, i practice more with iron sights though because you are relying on a battery that can die or fail you at any time. So if i am shooting 200 rounds with my AR, normally more than half will be dedicated to the flip-ups

The only red dot sight I have is on a Ruger Mark II.. I purchased the gun with the red dot on it.....I love it.....I go to my pistol range and bench shoot bottle caps all day long ....red dots are fun

I'd have to say with iron sights over the red dot. Mainly, I dont like the way the positioning of the red dot fluctuates with movement and mostly, I like the fact that my iron sights never require changing batteries.
