muzzleloader? I found a .50 cal cheap on Sportsmans guide. It looks like a deal for starting out in long gun muzzle loading. Already got a revolver coming, I thoought I'd go with a long gun as well. Thanks for the input!!

Dave

i am not sure i understand what you mean by traditions 209 slide. i am guessing you mean slide as in the bolt type? is it a traditions inline muzzleloader? and it uses a #209 primer for ignition?

i have a traditions tracker 209 rifle. its a good rifle to start if you want to use an inline. i have'nt shot any animals with it yet. but i can kill a 20 oz. soda bottle with it at 100 yards.

That sounds perfect to me. Thanks. Sportsmans Guide listed it as a 209 slide so that's why I referenced it. Thanks again.

Dave :p

Hey Scrat, You caught me! I figured that there aren't that many BP forums and I might get the most info on a subject by going to more than one. Hope this doesn't offend anyone. I just wanted to find out some info quickly before the deal disappeared. As it is, I decided to spend $10 more ($109 for the Traditions Slide from SportemansGuide, and $119 for a CVA Wolf Magnum break-open from Cabela's) and get the break-open that was mentioned in several of the thread answers and the reviews. That makes my life safer (and being close to 65, I need all I can get!!). Thanks for all the great info you have posted, it's better than a dozen books!

By the way, are there any other BP forums than this and The Highroad? Thanks.

Dave :)

These are the two best. I used to go on handloads .com

http://forums.handloads.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=12&PN=0

however they were having some major problems with a few of the members and such have closed down one of the sites. Now there are only about 4 members on there. Cabelas is a great place to shop. If you looking for black powder guns. Best thing to do is check them at least twice a month. One for the sales and two for the shipping. A few times a year on their home page they will post a 4.95 shipping deal. you can order anything for flat 4.95 shipping. thats when i usually buy the most. However they stand behind the products they sell and do a good job on the prices. its really hard to find places that beat their prices.

would it help if i said that i have 2 sidelock muzzleloading rifles as well as the inline? because i do have 2 sidelocks, they are #11 percussion cap type though. a flintlock added to the collection would probably be nice:).

i really dont know but im not too sure its helping. but i didnt want to offend anyone.
;)

last thing we need is this turning in to handloads.com
