Whats your Favorite .454 Casull XTP loads?

I have a 10 year old Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull. I am finally ready to start reloading for it and picked up a box of Hornady .452 250gr XTP bullets. I now see that there is very little data for that combination.

Would you please share your favorite jacketed loads for the .454 Casull? I have a lot of Titegroup and Win 296 and was hoping to use one of them if possible.

Thank you for your time

Right out of the gate I will warn you that the 250gr XTP is a 45LC bullet, and should not be pushed to .454 Casull velocities, and is rated at 1600fps MAX.

The XTP-MAG is the bullet you should have gotten. They are available in 240gr and 300gr.

I'm in the same boat and I was also looking for .45LC loads to use since I have a bunch of LC cases.

Or load the .454 cases with the LC loads?

Thanks for feedback. I appreciate the insight on my error of picking up 250gr xtp.

That said, with an open box I can't return, I am not finding anu published safe load data. Any suggestions on possibility of using this bullet with either 296 or Titegroup?

Hogdon site shows Tightgroup at
9.7gr starting load
11.2gr max. for 250gr JHP. Max load is 1298fps.

This should produce a 44 Mag type load.

This is well below pressure maximum.

Starting loads for 296 are beyond your bullet's limitations.

+1 on what Tim said. You only want to use the 240gr or 300gr XTM "Mag" projectiles. They have an extra thick jacket that can withstand the much higher pressures of the 454's and 460 mags
