I am just starting with reloading my .223 brass.
I only target shoot at the range.
Looking for good bullet for accurate target shooting.

Thanks for the help,
Steve

1. You will likely have A LOT more responses in the hanloading section.

2. What gun and barrel (length and twist rate) are you planning to load for?

My first stop for accurate target ammo is Sierra Matchkings. There may be better options for serious competitors and/or long range applications, but for the cost they are hard to beat IMO.

If you are running a shorter barrel (AR) or a slower twist barrel (1:9 or slower) I would look at something in the 50-55 grain range. The 52gr. Sierra Matchking HPBT and 53gr. Hornady V Max generally get good review without spending an arm and a leg for 100 rounds.

If you are shooting a longer barrel or one with a fast twist (1:7), I would look at something around around the 70ish grain mark like the 69gr. Sierra MatchKing HPBT (my bullet of choice out of a 26" 1:7 barrel for my bolt gun).

In the end, the best answer is to simply try a variety of bullets at a variety of loads and see what works best in your gun. My recommendations are meant as a starting point.

I have a Stag Arms Model 3
16" Barrel with a 1:9 Twist
I was looking at the Sierra Matchking non-coated, they are only $100 for 1000

The 68-69 gr BTHP from Sierra, Nosler and Hornady seem to be easily accurate with a wide range of powders. I love loading these bullets. The 75-77 gr bullets are more selective of which powders work well. For some reason the 62 gr bullets also seem more particular. But 55 gr and 69 gr seem to be a sweet spot and are easy to get excellent loads for both 1/9 and 1/7 bbls.

For a 1:12 twist barrel I have had very good results with the 52 grain Hornady A-Max bullets and CFR223 powder.

I have a 1 in 8 twist Wylde chamber rock river stainless 16 inch heavy conture barrel and I use Sierra Matchking 52 grain BTHP over 21.5 grains IMR 4198. I consistently shoot sub 2 inch groups at 300 yards.
