What's wrong with Para-Ordnance & how do they compare with others?

In [Link to invalid post], the Para-Ordnance wasn't ranked very highly when compared to other pistols and I'm curious if you've had any negative experiences with them. I own a SS P14-45 and I have to admit that I've experiences more jams with it than I would feel comfortable with in a pistol used for self-defense.

Theres nothing wrong with Para Products. I have a P-14 "limited" that i would shoot against ANY factory pistol on the market today. I trust this weapon for my duty weapon and have the utmost confidence in its reliability to funtion if called on.

I ran @ 1000 rounds thru this weapon at the EOSM in Springfield Ms. Not one problem, with groups at 15 yards running at @ 3 inch diameter.

There service department is excellent and would recommend there product to any SERIOUS pistol shooter. Just ask 3 time world champion [Ipsa?]Todd Jarret who shoots Para products. For what you get buying Para products they are very reasonably priced.

Hey all...

First post on the forum. I was a lurker for a whole half-day and decided to register after seeing this thread.

At the beginning of this year, I purchased a Para P13. I had nothing but problems with the pistol. The slide frequently failed to lock back and after over 1000 rounds of GI Ball through the pistol, it was still jamming at least 5 times with 50 shots. The pistol would usually stovepipe a live round, but failure to feeds were also a problem. After about 300 shots or so, the rear sight came very loose and would fall off if the pistol was tipped sideways.

There could have been multiple reasons why the problems occurred, but with all of the above problems occurring in the same pistol, you can bet that I will never buy a Para again. I have also heard that Para magazines are very unreliable and have heard of similar jamming problems on no less than three different forums.

I recently traded in the Para for an HK USP .45 and have never been happier with a pistol.

As they say, your results may vary.

FUD,

My only Para so far is a P-13 Limited and it has yet to have any problems at all. It is well made and extremely accurate. I've just ordered a P-12 LDA and will report on it as soon as I shoot it some.

From threads I've read on the 1911 forum, some people have had a few problems w/ theirs but they were fixed and returned immediately by Para's customer service and the problems never recurred. That's all I know for now.

I've got a stainless P13.45. It's one of my favorites. It has had some slight markings on the topstrap, but they haven't grown so I don't worry about them. Some of the white paint on the sights is also coming off. Finally, if I leave the mags fully loaded for too long, the springs need to be decompressed.

However, it shoots fine, doesn't jam, and still happens to be one of my favorite pistols.

What's wrong with Para? Uneven QC. Some of what they produce works just fine, so I'd say there's not an inherent design flaw...but my observation is, they put out an awful lot of jam-a-matics.

And as for the poster who said Todd Jarret uses one...so what? Do you think YOU will find the same quality in ANY brand pistol you buy over the counter as one of the "name" shooters who's supplied by the factory? And if you get a lemon, will the company go to the same lengths to "make it right" as they will for someone prominent?

So what?? The gun Todd Jarrett uses starts from a Factory Para, thats what.

Will they go to the same lenghts to repair a lemom. Everytime i have dealt with Para, there service was excellent and friendly. So as far as i'm concerned yes they will.

HankB, have you ever owned or shot any Para products for any lenght of time? Or is your "expertise" based on rumor from the internet. I used to fall for false rumors about Glock products on this site and others on the net. I went out and bought a model G-20 and have loved this weapon ever since. [Great weapon] [So much for the rumor mill]. :)

12-34hom, just as a side note with regard to "rumor mills", the majority of members here on TFL have a low regard for S&W pistols (this is with regard to their quality even before the agreement was signed -- so, all politics aside). However, I consider them to be able to hold their own against all others and I own around a dozen of them and they are the first ones that I reach for when going either for a CCW or a home defense weapon when something goes bump in the night.

I often wonder if people who say negative things about a particular firearm actual had a bad experience themselves or are just repeating something that they've read or heard.

FWIW, I had a P14-.45 for about a month. Total lemon. Wouldn't feed anything reliably, even FMJ. I don't know if it was representative, but mine was a POS.

If you check the threads you will see that almost every manufacturer puts out a dud once in awhile. Para, Kimber, Colt, Les Baer, Wilson, and all the others. If you get one that isn't right then send it back and make them make it right. Be persistant. Don't give up. If you try unsuccessfully to get satisfaction then tell them that you are going to the gun forums and complain about their products and service. Manufacturers don't like bad press and will usually make things right. But if all else fails there is always your friendly Gunsmith who for a few well spent Pesos will fix your gun for you. Most of the guns from the better manufacturers are not lost causes. They just need a little TLC and they will be fine. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Just an additional note. I know I know. I spend good money so why did I get the lemon. Hey lemons aren't only with guns. Cars, Houses, Clothing and a bunch of other stuff too. I guess simply put. Too much demand means poorer quality. As long as there are a million others who want the product who cares about you. It isn't right but it is that way in business these days. But if you bust their cookies long enough they will succumb.
