What's wrong w/ my Mini-14??

Hi!

I went to the range w/ my stainless mini 14...no problems. I cleaned it that night.

Today (1 week later) I went to the range and the gun would not fire. I pulled the trigger...clink but no bang. It became jammed but I was able to cycle it with force. I noticed a very small dent on the primer where the firing pin struck it...I think smaller than usual. Tried it again w/ different box of ammo: same thing.

So, the gun goes through the motions, but does not fire. Could my firing pin be toast? Could I have done something to it while cleaning it? BTW, I did not do a "field strip" of the gun when I cleaned it...just the barrel and exposed parts. No disassembly.

Also, it's only 1 year old w/ 250-300 rounds fired through it.

HELP!:(

Are you sure your bolt is locking up completely?

I'd check for some debris which is either keeping the bolt from completely locking up or preventing the firing pin from coming far enough forward.

Let us know what you find.

Ditto.

Even if you didn't take it out the bolt it might have popped out of place when you were cleaning. You gotta tuck those things back in place.
I took mine out awhile back and didn't quite have it back in there right. If your having trouble cycling the gun its the bolt and not the firing pin.

Make sure your mag catch is not interfering with the bolt.

Nevermind. I'm an idiot.

There was a small cleaning patch left in the barrel preventing the round from chambering completely. Good thing the gun didn't fire. That could have been bad.

I will never be disracted when cleaning my guns again.

Thanks, fellas.

Whew!

Whew is right!
I just got a new cleaning kit and in the instructions they said to be sure to look down the bore after cleaning. I've been cleaning guns for almost 50 years and it went in one ear and out the other.

I hope your experience wises me up.

I did that once , firing with a patch in the bore. Never did it again.
It was an expensive leason.
