What's With Colt?

I have been out of the handgun market for quite a while although I shoot a lot with what I have. What's with Colt? Are they still selling handguns? Any besides the single action? Just to law enforcement? I have heard it is almost hopeless to get a Python. (I got mine :) !) A friend is looking. Thanks!

Colt shut down Python production this year, apparently to modernize and replace the tooling. SAA and 1911/1991 production continues apace. Allegedly the Pythons and Anacondas will be back next year, using sporty new CNC machine tools.

Colt does exactly what colt seems to want to do. The Colt family has been separate from the company since 1902 but the company has gotten so agressive defending their RIGHTS that EMF has replaced the phrase "Colt Model" (referencing percussion revolvers ) with "Model" throughout their web site. Guns from several companies previously marked for caliber ".45 Colt" are now marked ".45"

Last time I tried, I got very good customer service from Colt and found their Series 80 and 1991 pistols to be more reliable than the Kimbers and Springfield armories that were being produced at the time.

They seem indifferent to the Pistolsmits Guild and the gun media so they don't get much positive press.

I must say I have no complaint with customer service. They retimed and checked out my old Python quickly and at a fair price. :)
