What's up with this name?

Actually,,,

Someone thought it would go well in Texas,,,
And made the decision based completely on a marketing strategy.

Now having made that flat statement,,,
How would I know if that is factually true or not?

It simply makes sense.

Google is your friend.....and the name wasn't chosen based on marketing strategy.

I suppose that the name "Single Action Army" was too long of a name for everyone to say. When you think about it, many people (that usually seem to me to be uneducated about weapons) Will just say the manufacturer's name followed by the caliber. For example, "Glock 40" is a popular term for those who do not know the model or that there are even specific models for the weapon.

Samuel Houston
Samuel Colt
Samuel Walker
There's more of a correlation than the name

I blame it on the public school system:D

Colvin- yeah I was at a gun range/shop. A let's call him fellow, pointed at a glock (what a shock) and said let me see that p millimeter as if it was the name of the gun

Please explain the reasoning behind this name.
Was the reason for the name because it's the most popular gun in the world or did the name involve something more specific about Texas or American culture?

According to wikipedia:

The new Houston team was named the Colt .45s after a "Name The Team" contest was won by William Irving Neder. The Colt .45 was well known as "the gun that won the west."
