What's up with George?

I just caught wind of this yesterday.
Friends of his from Texas were shocked recently to find him nearly wild-eyed, thumping himself on the chest three times while he repeated "I am the president!" He also made it clear he was setting Iraq up so his successor could not get out of "our country's destiny."

I first saw it on Fark, which linked to a liberal blog, which cited a Dallas op-ed piece.I didn't think it would be fair to bring it up without a more reputable source. Now that this article names a witness (who if anything is pro-Bush), I think it's fair to discuss this.

I used to think that he was just...well....not too bright, being manipulated and eventually hung out to dry by his own cabinet. But now I'm thinking that there may be something else going on that explains some of the other weirdness.
Example: When that light plane triggered the alert in DC, and the Secret Service evacuated Dick Cheney and Laura Bush, but not the president. When asked why, they responded "we didn't want to disturb his bike ride"...
The irritability, malapropisms....

How to explain so many of the behaviors that can't simply be dismissed as "a little slow on the uptake" or "out of the loop" ?

I gotta ask....Is the President *literally* unhinged??

Is he on some sort of medication? Some of this behavior borders on psychosis, and that has far-reaching ramifications for the fortunes of the Republican party.

I think we gotta talk about this.

" I gotta ask....Is the President *literally* unhinged??"

No. He doesn't have hinges literally.

I honestly think he's one of those charming sociopaths. He isn't an idiot, that's all an act, I think. Acting stupid on purpose can have benefits sometimes.

He doesn't respond well to criticism and gets really menacing when he's asked a question that he doesn't agree with. I saw him do this in the rose garden speech a few weeks ago. He has also stated that he personally talks to god and god talks back. He has gone on rambling pointless speeches in public many different times. Remember that fool me once thing? It seemed like it was impossible for him to actually say shame on me. He constantly ignores public opinion.

All of those things seem to suggest that there is something seriously wrong with his mental health. I don't think he should be trusted near "the button".

I've wondered the same thing ever since seeing footage of his gubernatorial debated. He was relatively eloquent back then and somehow in just a decade went from a man who could get his point across properly to a rambling idiot. The icing on the cake was his insistence that he was on a mission from god.

I honestly can't tell if he's faking his half-wit country bumpkin act or he seriously needs a prescription for Namenda. Either one is equally as frightening.

I'm sure DU has already been round-and-round about this. They're certainly not afraid to confront the subject. ;)

To answer your question directly, I bring up the question because
#1 I'm a glutton for punishment.
#2 If I know about it, the Dems certainly know about it. Therefore...
#3 Probably not too bright to hitch a presidential wagon to his star.
And of course...
#4 He's the man with his finger on the button. (cheery thought)

So what the heck. Let's find out who can stomach discussing this and who can't. Thus far, it appears you can't. (edit) Or perhaps you can. Can you explain to me how all this is nothing to worry about; totally normal behavior? I kinda hope you can, 'cuz it's pretty unsettling IMO (end edit)

Tim,
Ya got me. :p Okay...strike "unhinged" and replace with "insane". Maybe "paranoid-delusional" or simply "bipolar". Take your pick...

***If Bush is just acting dense, he's a very good actor, 'cause his routine is very convincing! Seriously, I agree that he is likely a sociopath whose charm has been slipping lately. For someone supposedly concerned with protecting innocent human life, even in rudimentary form, he is very nonchalant about the carnage his war has unleashed in Iraq.

Believe it or not, I'm really not trying to fire up an excuse to pile on. I'd like to focus on the possibility of a mental health issue, and maybe discuss what to do about it politically.

I'll vote for bipolar. Oh wait this wasn't a poll:p

It's no secret I support him.

I see his behavior as odd at times, especially times like are being reported in this case. I haven't met a person in a "power" position yet who doesn't get all pissy when you disagree with them; and many people who aren't in power but want to be in power are the same way. As for setting things up so his successor has do deal with the "problems" he created. Maybe he has a feeling a democrat is going to win the election and he figures he might as well repay the dems the favor Bill Clinton and company did for him. The previous administration ignored the terrorist threat unless they needed to boost their numbers. I can't say I agree with it since it's childish, but the sinister side of me can't fault him if he wants to leave special present for the dems. In the end all Americans will lose playing this kind of game.
Flame away.......

These kind of people can be very smart and have had a whole lifetime to perfect their imbecile act. It disguises their real personality and makes people like them more than they normally would.

Slash, you mentioned medication in your first post. I heard a rumor that he is prescribed xanax, which is used for people who have panic attacks, anxiety disorders and calming people down in psychiatric hospitals. I'm not sure if it's true though...

I find Capitol Hill Blue to be....

lacking...

It's pretty transparently a Democratic mouthpiece rag, and reads not unlike the Weekly World News.

The articles on Republicans are thinly veiled attacks, while the articles on Democrats are a "nose-in-the-buttcrack" festival.

So, instead of asking what's up with George, I'd have to say, what's up with you that you're reading this drivel and looking to find anything even remotely useful in it?

The whole thing about his being "dumb" is, if true, then what does that make the Democrat Party that he has run in ragged little circles for all these years? Asleep? Idiots? Just plain lazy? :D As for the original event mentioned here, I'll just take it, and the sources, with a grain of salt.

Questioning President Bush's intellect, sanity, and so forth seems a national pastime as it has been with other Presidents as Clinton, Carter, Nixon and likely ALL of the others.

Take a moment how your thoughts and comments might have been had Gore or the fake war hero Kerry been elected?

The ranting and raving by liberals and pinkos concerning Bush and his every word and gesture are typical of their behavior.

And the conservatives and republicans have not the courage to speak up when Bush utters a correct statement or makes a proper decision whether that be rare or occasional or frequent.

We have become sickened by the President bashing virus and it is so convenient to blame him for every ill under the sun. Rather blame your own personal voting for the House, Senate, and White House !

His behavior seems in line for a recovering alcoholic. There's a reason he doesn't even have a single glass of wine.

It's been described that you never stop being an alcoholic, you just stop drinking.

No, it speaks more about the people that voted him into office.

SecDef,
Could be. There's also the cocaine thing. Perhaps a side-effect of recovery or treatment?
Okay, so this thing is on "Democratic mouthpiece rags" such as Capitol Hill Blue and the Huffington Post. It's all over DailyKos, TPM Cafe and (presumably although I haven't checked) Democratic Underground as well.
What's worse is that it's not just leftist gossip, it's *attributed* leftist gossip. So we can be sure that they won't be shy about discussing it if it suits their purposes. For example....the primaries would be a dandy time for Hillary to drag this out against Rudy "thank God for George W. Bush" Giuliani.
We (being a buncha random firearms enthusiasts) are certainly in no position to treat the man.....so how do we keep our cause from going down with his ship?

BTW, I'm actually tickled to see the word "pinko" in modern usage :D I thought it was long-out of service. Sorry for the sidetrack...

Considering he's responsible for some of the biggest pooch-screws this country has witnessed in the past few decades then yeah, it's easy and logical to blame him. Either he's an idiot or he has idiots advising him in which case he's still an idiot for picking them. Rove, Gonzales, Rumsfeld...their stupid decisions and corruption reflect on the stupid decisions and corruption of the man that put them into power.

How is this is an example of Bush's weirdness?

Ive lived through Kennedy's liberal spin machine, Johnsons back room dealings and rascism, Nixon's paranoia, Fords bumbling, Carters holier than thou marshmellow religiosity, Reagans conservative spin machine, Bush's Old East Coast establishmentarianism, Clintons Philanderings and now Dubyas ineptness.

Life goes on.

Dont you guys have anything better to do?
