what's this worth?

I've got an HK USP 45 Compact limited edition (1 of 1000).

Came with a mirror polished, blued slide. marked with a color HK logo and 1of 1000. Hardwood presentation case, 2 mags and a commemorative coin. The Pistol is NIB unfired.

What's it worth?

Should I fire it?

The commemorative coin looks like this and the color emblem on the slide looks like the obverse of the coin with a white bachground instead of black.

I'm not Digital camera capale yet or I would show pics.

Shooting will de-value it.
But there are two shops that have nib still for sale -$869 and $899

But unless you plan on selling it I would shoot it.
Take care of it, don't get it all mucked up....

Do you want an investment or do you want a gun?

I personally am out of college a year with no kids or wife so I have extra money, if i found a deal on one I would get it and put it up, never to be shot, but that is me.

Shoot it! Shoot it!

Let's use the analogy of buying a vintage corvette. Would I drive it? OH YES, would I ever! Just looking at something that desirable doesn't cut it with me. The enjoyment of life is to utilize something as prized as your gun and savor the moment. My son owns an H&K .40 cal USP compact and I consider it just about the finest handgun of any kind that I have ever had the pleasure of shooting. I don't know how you have the self-control to keep from driving straight to your local range and running a couple of boxes of premium ammo through it. I admire you for that! Would I shoot it if it were mine? I think you already know my answer, don't you........you lucky stiff!! Have fun, either way.

Yours is a really nice gun. It's probably worth $850-$900. Commemoritives don't seem to excellerate in value anymore than a standard gun of the same configuration. In other words as an example I've got a Colt First Edition 10mm 1911 style pistol, it too is 1 of 1000. I doubt it's worth $50 more than a standard Delta in the same shape. If you're tieing up a sizeable portion of your gun fund in this piece I'd say sell it and buy a shooter. If you've got other pistols to shoot, then don't shoot the HK.

If it were me, I would just leave 'er in the box. And if I had a vintage vette, she wouldn't be driven either. She'd be worthless if it got in an accident.

I noticed that you didn't state what you paid for it. If you would, enlighten us.:D

Shoot It ?

I would probably put a hole through the middle of that fancy coin just to show I could.:D

Guns are for shooting and carrying. No point owning one you can never shoot or carry....kind of like owning a car you can't ever drive or sit in.

Use it, shoot it, carry it. It's a paperweight otherwise. If you want an investment that sits in your closet all day, get gold coins or something.

Bear in mind: Once you pull the trigger on it, its' value plummets.

Commemorative guns are only commemorative if you don't shoot them.

That being said, HK's hold their value well enough that I'd probably say "What the heck" and shoot it anyways.

BTW: Blue book gives values of 100%=$1,150, 98%=$895, 95%=$795. (100% means unfired in the box. Once you pull the trigger, it's 98% no matter how well you care for it. If it's any consolation, I have the matching "1 of 1000 50th Anniversary" HK knife; I carry it occasionally. :) )

Found a pic of the pistol on the 'net here's what I'm talking about
