Item: THE QUEENSLAND OPPOSITION SAYS THE STATE'S GUN LAWS MAY NEED TO BE CHANGED TO
ALLOW SHOPKEEPERS TO BETTER PROTECT THEMSELVES.
INTERVIEWEES: ROB BORBIDGE, OPPOSITION LEADER
NEWSREADER: The Queensland Opposition says the state's gun laws may need to be changed to allow shopkeepers to better protect themselves.
At the moment there are restrictions on issuing a firearm licence for personal protection. The Opposition Leader Rob Borbidge says he believes that shopowners should be freely allowed to keep a concealable weapon.
ROB BORBIDGE: Look I believe they should be able to. I mean the situation is now so serious that shopkeepers are in fear of their lives.
Now in my view they must have the right to protect themselves and their property and if that means that certain laws have to be revisited, so be it.
NEWSREADER: A spokesman for the Police Minister Tom Barton says firearms can be used for personal protection as long as it's within the boundaries of the current gun laws. (Bwaaa-haaa-haa!!!)
* * End * *[/quote]
I guess that's the end of Borbidge's political career. With profound statements like that though, maybe he could get a job as a rocket scientist! (/cynicism)
