What's the value of my Russian Makarov?

This Russian Makarov is the .380 with the adjustable rear sight. It is in excellent condition. I bought it about five years ago. I understand this type is not imported anymore. Does this add anything to it's value? So, what do you think it's worth?

The Russian 9x18 can still be had for about $160-200.
I have not noticed too many .380 recently, but I believe they are going for about $225-275
Hang onto it, they are going nowhere but up.

martin6,

I just paid $240 (shipping included) for an as new B-west satin finish .380 with two extra grips and a 9x18 barrel & spring. The man is a very knowledgable (he'll like that) collector, so i think he gave me a great deal. :)

Definitely hold on to it for a while. Maks are starting to get scarce. I don't see many Russian Maks at gun shows any more. I really don't see Maks selling for over $200 yet, but that time is soon coming!

Gee thanks Auggie. :D

By the way, Uncle Sam didn't deliver your envelope yet. If it shows ups Saturday or Monsay, you'll have your new Mak by Tuesday.

Actually, except for the military Bulgarians, most of the Makarovs are either pushing the $200 mark or have already exceeded it. There seems to have been an upward swing very recently. The ARSENAL commercial Bulgies are getting there, along with the commercial Russians. Russian hi-caps seem to be right at that threshold, and East Germans have once again begun to exceed it. Chinese Maks have really begun to take off (above $300 in some cases for the really nice ones), as have the specialty Maks: Miltex Special Editions, Simson-Suhls, Baikal brushed satin Russians, 40th Aniversay Big Bears, etc. And the really primo Russian military versions can go for over $400.

So someone tell me, why am I selling my satin Baikal to Auggie...

Take care. Marko

Marko,

I sent it regular mail so I really didn't expect it to get to you till Monday. I mean, afterall, it does have to cross three States to get there and with East of the Mississippi speed limits on mail trucks and all...........

I think the value of satin Russians has officially hit the $800
level.....I could be off a little :)

Well, I have NOT seen prices going up. Several friends of mine bought 7 Makarovs (Bulgarian surplus, excellent to unissued condition) three weeks ago for $99 each. SOG, JGSales and others have been selling for this price. Cheers, Cryoman

As I mentioned earlier, the military Bulagarians (which are what your friends just purchased) are the exception, although their price is also climbing --- just not near the $200 level yet. Also, the $99 Mak deals appear to be over. The guys on the Makarov Forum have been making some noise over the fact that several places listed in Shot Gun News are still advertising milsurp Bulgarians for $99, but they have none in stock -- and can't say when they'll be getting more. Bummer.

Something else to consider is that these $99 Maks aren't necessarily the same as the ones that were flooding the market in mid-2001. Although some are indeed unissued/unfired milsurps, many of the latest arrivals are put-togethers and others are obviously used --- not that $99 is a bad price for these, just that you should be aware of what you're getting. Most of the unissued milsurp Bulgies seemed to have climbed into the $140-$160 level, although you can still find some for slightly less if you look around.

Take care. Marko
