Aiming point. It is easier to quarter the square or line up on a corner or center a dot in the inner white square than it is to sight on the bullseye. There are scored benchrest matches but most are for group and all that is required is that you hit the target inside the border.
Thanks, Jim. I believe I read in the past that at 100 yards there is a maximum scope power of 6 allowed. Of course, if I'm just shooting for fun it doesn't matter, but when you play the expert's game you like to pretend you're an expert.
There is a 6X limit on Hunter Benchrest but the several other forms of benchrest competition have no scope power limit and the usual is the most powerful you can find.
