What's the procedure for getting a revolver fixed by Colt?

I've got a sickly Python which is showing some signs of real timing problems. Spitting, off center primer strikes, and even punctures in .357 mag primers.

So I'd like to get it sent back to Colt for some refurbishing. What's the procedure here? Do I call them first and let them know it's coming, or do I just box it up with a description of the problem and let 'em have it?

Thanks!

I recently sent mine so I know what to do. Call Colt at Tel: 1-800-426-8001, follow the prompts to Customer service between 10 am and 12 pm EST and 1pm to 4pm EST and ask the Rep for the address to send your gun to for repair. Then, send the gun via FED-EX priority overnight to the supplied address include a letter with your return address and your phone number, the repair shop will call you back and let you know whats wrong with your gun. When they call, if there is a charge involved you can give your credit card info or mail them a check to do the work. An adult signature is required to receive the gun back, again via FED-EX. UPS can be used, but my local UPS gave me such a hard time about shipping a firearm I used FED-EX, which was as smooth as silk to work with. I also checked with the local police whom my guns are registered with to make sure I wasn't violating any state laws shipping a gun interstate without an FFL. In my case, on Long Island NY, if I am the registered owner I can legally ship to, and receive from, a firearms manufacturer for the purpose of repair. Always check to be sure, in these days of anti-terrorism package checking, it would be very bad to have the FBI knocking on your door asking why you are shipping a gun interstate.
