What's the lowest recoil 12 ga shells I can buy?

I have a Beretta 390. My 12 year old wants to give shooting a try. I'd like him to have a good experience. My shotgun has cycled the Rem Gun club #8 1 oz loads at 1185. These are the smallest load/lowest fps I can find so far.

Are there other specific brands out there with lower recoil loads good for trap/skeet?

My club has a 20 ga 1100 he can use, but I'll need to have the manager around to get it, and others could be using it when we arrive. I'd like to have a "plan" B at the ready in the event we show up and can't use the 20 ga 1100.

Are there commercially available 7/8 loads available with lighter dram loads?

Win AA trainer loads run about 980 fps and will not work a semi - maybe your club has an O/U he could try those in

WL12FL8 is the product number

Otherwise, for a semi shoot a 7/8 oz 12 gauge load running no faster than 1200 fps. Kemen has a loading as do some others. Shoot them in the heaviest gun he can handle

Stock fit is very important ! Get a 'youth model' gun or butt stock unless he's tall. Make sure he leans into it ! Any target load will do .

The reason I was going to get him to try the 390 12 ga was for the weight. I think he will tire quickly, but one round may be enough anyway for an intro.

LOP on my gun will be a too big though - he's 5 6 and I'm 6 2.

I guess he can work through the LOP for now and use the heavier gun, at least for a few shots.

I'm over 6'2 and I have and have had guns with LOPs ranging from 13-3/4 to 15-1/2 - and all fit well - it depends on several factors including the shape of the grip, drop, cast, pitch, etc.

Have him try a few shots and if he's interested, getting a youth stock for your gun might be feasible. (Of course, so would getting him his own.......:D)

If he is only starting and trying one shot at a time - those low noise, low recoil Win AA's I mentioned would do the job - you just might have to work the semi action, but for one shot introduction stuff could do. One box of those and then the regular 7/8 or 1oz loads @ 1200 fps (which is NOT any of the wally world stuff) could be fired after that box

Win AA featherlite shells are the lowest recoil of any I've tried. Nobel Sport
LR1 is the next. Use the smaller shot to improve patterns but I've been very impressed by both loads' bird killing ability.
