What's the difference? SW99 vs. P99...

I might be kicking myself later for asking this, but are there any
significant mechanical differences between the SW99 and the
P99?

PLEASE LEAVE OUT THE POLITICS:mad:

ANM, no politics from me tonight, just facts. :)

The SW99 is not made as well as its German sibling. If you were to place the two side-by-side, you would note obvious differences in the quality of the machining, and that comes through in the fit and feel of the gun. It also accounts for the price difference between the SW99, and a P99 proofed in Ulm.

To make matters worse, early SW99's in .40cal had production problems, and that was compounded by a failed trial by the NJ State Police, where they sent them all back. Turns out it really wasn't Smith's or Walther's fault, but once a rumor goes around...

You can identify a 'real German' P99 by the Ulm proof marks, which is the netter 'N' under an eagle crest, in three places:

* On the right rear of the slide, aft of the cocking serrations
* On the right rear of the barrel flat
* On the right front of the frame, just forward of the trigger guard

HTH.

While the frames of the SW99 are Walther-made, apparently the QC and finishing in the upper half isn't up to P99 standards; the P99 has a vastly better trigger, while the SW99's feels like just another plastic gun.

The Walther sure is perty-like, the Smith sure ain't. Far as mechanics I believe they are the same, frame is made by Walther slide by &*& or is it *&*? Anybody know if SW99 mags will work in P99? Seems like they are cheaper to buy in hi cap.
