I never heard that Kerrey didn't "feel right" about wearing his medal. The question is, doesn't he appreciate it, or is he modest about wearing it? I know humility and egotism are polar opposites, especially where politicians are concerned, but perhaps this is the case with Kerrey. Perhaps he doesn't feel like he earned it. After all, he laid alongside Lewis B. Puller Jr in the hospital, a Marine who suffered much more serious injuries. I don't know.
Harry Truman, artillery captain in the 24th (Rainbow) Division during the Great War, said he'd rather have won the Medal of Honor than be president. Perhaps the opposite is true for Kerrey. I certainly don't agree with his politics. I witnessed his announcement in 1991 that he would run for the presidency. I was impressed with the possibilities and potential he offered. He has since shown he didn't deserve those thoughts. I believe he is headed for Columbia University after January, 2001. May he stay there.
