What's the best semiauto for large hands?

Friend of mine owns a Beretta Cougar .40.

It was his first handgun, and he's generally impressed with it --except his hands are so large that he ends up using his 2nd knuckle to press the trigger.

He has purchased a Para 14-45, which fits his hand better but still not that well.

I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions. The basic problem seems to be finding a semi-auto with a large enough grip so he can properly place his trigger finger.

Maybe add-on grips could help, but are those made for the Para?

I don't believe his hands qualify him as a freak of nature -- but he can palm a basketball.

Thanks!

Try one of the grip sleeves from Hogue. Basically it's a rubber tube that you slide over the grip to make it larger. I can't palm a basketball but all my grips are too small, otherwise.

If you want a big grip you are gonna want something in a big caliber thats also double stack. So a double stack .45 ACP would probably work well. I hear that the CZ97b is not only huge but a very nice shooter. Desert Eagles are huge but not practical (but soooooooooooooooooooooo much fun). Heck, I'm all outta ideas. Maybe that fullsized Glock .45 ACP?

Yes, I suggest trying a Glock 20 or 21. I have largish hands, but these guns feel big even to me. But of course the solution will come down to individual fit and preference.

Funny, because from what I've seen people with large hands have less issues with grip size than people with small hands. Doesn't make the problem less real though.

It'll cost more, but how about the H&K USP series? Especially the .45 ACP's?

I've got big hands but never had a problem getting used to pulling my finger out a bit to get proper contact with the trigger. In fact I find it improves my shooting a bit as it seems to emphasize to "press" straight back instead of "pull".

Put an arched mainspring housing and aftermarket wood grips, plus long trigger on the Para P-14. If after that he STILL needs a larger gun tell him to get a .50 Desert Eagle!

I have a Para-Ord LDA14-45 and put the Hogue automatic pistol stocks on it (part #14000) and it fits my hand perfectly (big handed) the finger grooves add a little more securing to it , the factory grips feel slick .

How about a H&K P7M13? It has been compared to holding a brick.

My Wilson Combat KZ45 has a blocky doublestack grip. It feels bigger than my Paraordnance P13.

An HK SOCOM might be the ticket. A little pricey no doubt, but one should never underestimate the importance of proper fit.

Try a HK P7M13 witha set of Nill-Grips. Only people with very large hands grip this well. If they make them, a set of Nill Grips for any auto pistol adds, with the palm swell, to the circumforence(sp?)of any auto.:)

92/96 Beretta

I can't believe it. 16 replies and only one mention of the Beretta 92/96 series! The first thing you always hear about this pistol is HOW BIG IT IS! Why no mention of it? I would have thought it would be the first pistol mentioned!

Seriously, though. It should be a great choice for your bud. Big, fat grip. Long trigger reach. Long DA trigger pull. Large magazine capacity. Readily available, affordable hicaps. 9mm or .40 cal. Should be the perfect choice.
