my favorite choices for range ammo are IMI Samson (Israel), Fiocchi (Italy), and Sellier and Bellot (Czech Republic). All are inexpensive and quality.
IMI ammo can be purchased from
http://www.cole-distributing.com at good prices and shipping is often free on many calibers. This is my favorite ammo as the quality control is very good as well as the accuracy. Cole-distributing often has a hard time keeping this stuff in stock because of the demand.
Fiocchi is my second choice and can be purchased at very reasonable prices from
http://www.summitammo.com (they usually don't have all the loads they sell posted on the website, so call them). They also sell a lot of the ammo with free shipping. Fiocchi stuff can be pretty peppy too and is usually top quality stuff. Many distributors have a hard time keeping this stuff in stock as well.
S&B ammo is very cheap from some retailers and is good quality. The 9mm fodder I've shot was very accurate. The cheapest I've seen this stuff is from
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com or
http://www.natchezss.com
I prefer to shoot reasonably decent quality ammo through my pistols. The best foreign manufactured ammo can usually bought cheaper than comparable quality American made ammo.
Defense loads are a different can o' worms, though.
