Whats the best AK in 5.56 NATO?

I was going to buy a Vepr, but the stock is to long and proprietary to Vepr.
My other 2 options as I see them are, Norinco BWK and send to a good smith for pistol grip configuration or a Hesse M47 super.
I really want a milled reciever and I like the sight system on the M47 super. I just don't want to have to sink more money into it than what it would cost to make over the BWK.
I don't have a problem if the M47super needs some work and money, I just don't want a complete lemon. Any and all advice is appreciated, Thanks, Terry

The Romanian SAR 3's are a good deal right now. Check at AIM surplus,

Arsenal USA/Global Trades made some milled .223s(ie, K-101) for a while...every now & then you see one for sale. KVAR may be selling a .223 version but I've only seen 7.62x39s. KVAR has .223 kits but have gone up quite a bit in the last year. The Krebs guns are outstanding(but I've only seen the ones in 7.62x39). The only .223 kits I've seen have been Bulgarian. There are a couple of good smiths over on the AK-47.net board that you may want to check out.

The best AKs in .223 are probably the Finnish Valmet & Israeli Galil
(and for completeness the South African R4). If you have the $$$ you can get one but be prepared to pay.

Good luck...let us know what you get.
