What's the best aftermarket trigger for the Savage FP10?

I've got an FP110 in .308 that really needs a better trigger. Looking for a replacement that takes minimal smithing to install, something I can do for myself.

I use it mostly for target work and some still hunting. I prefer somthing that is robust and easy to adjust.

Thanks...
Ron

Ditto the Sharp Shooter Supply triggers by Fred Moreo of SSS. Also available for ~ $70 from Ryan @ Infinity Firearms @ 918-333-3069. They are superb :D !!

Hey guys,

Before running out and replacing the trigger, have you tried to adjust it yourself? I did mine following information I got at

VarmintHunters.com

I am totally happy with my trigger now. I didn't even have to drill and tap the trigger shoe, mine was already done for me by Savage (stock). Maybe I got a good rifle, but it is really nice now.

Give it a try and keep the $90 for ammo or other accessories.

Glockster, I have no doubt that your trigger is better than "as issued" but until you have felt the SSS, then you shouldn't assume that it's not worth the cash.

Steve,

Maybe the SSS is worth the extra cash, but like Ronaldo I will be using my rifle for targets and some still hunting. IMHO I don't think a trigger pull of 1.5 pounds is acceptable for any type of real hunting, varmints excluded.

I don't doubt the SSS is a fine addition to the Savage rifle. I was just trying to save the guy some money that I feel he doesn't need to spend right off the bat.

Thanks for the info guys...

I reviewed the info supplied for touching up the stock trigger and decided that I would go for the SSS instead.

My reasoning?? First, I'd be able to replace the stock trigger if necessary if I ever decided to sell the rifle. Second was that if I made a mistake on the smithing, I'd have no fallback and deer season is almost upon us.

I appreciate the thought behind saving some money on the trigger. However, the Leupold Vari-X III Tactical I've got mounted on it cost considerably more than the weapon itself, and the stock trigger was inhibiting my shooting more than a little.

Maybe someday I'll migrate the scope to a diferent rifle, but for now the Savage performs well enough for my needs.

To Ronaldo: I see that you are a very wise man. Much of the accuracy of a rifle comes from both a good quality scope and a good trigger pull.

I do not know if anyone makes a set trigger for the Savage but I do have one on my Model 70 Winchester made by Canjar. I could be in error but I believe at one time they made a trigger for the Savage but I cannot recall wether or not if it was a set trigger.

Once a person gets used to a set trigger breaking at say about 2 ounces you will wonder how in the world you ever were able to shoot good groups using the standard style triggers that often break at 2 lbs or more.

I have put good triggers on just about all my rifles including my AR15. When I installed a Jewell trigger on it my match scores in Offhand without aid of a sling went up dramatically. My AR trigger breaks at about 1 lb.

Buy the best scope you can afford and the lightest and best trigger you can afford and your accuracy will be much more consistant in both hunting and target shooting.

P.S. I have never subscriped to the philosophy that a hunting rifle should have a pull of at least 3lbs or more. This is ok for once a year hunter but for the professional it is only a bad joke. W.R.

Years ago I had a Canjar single-set trigger on a heavy barrel Ruger 77 in .220 Swift. It was oh, so easy to drive tacks with that rig! Feral cats at 250 to 300 yards were pretty easy, as well.

I put a standard Canjar on my pet Weatherby '06, and it is like breaking a glass rod. The pull is about two pounds, and I've not had any AD problem in its 30 years of hard use.

The Timney I put on a 77 Mark II is nice, but it doesn't seem to be in the Canjar class.
