Whats the average pattern for 00buck out of cylinder bores?

GUN-Beretta 1200FP 20" cyl bore
AMMO-Remington LE reduced recoil 00 buck

I was quite surprised to get spreads of about 8-12 inches at 7 yards with my Beretta 1200FP. At 15 yards, 3/9 pellets were completely off the IDPA target I was shooting. Are these numbers in line with what you have found with cyl bore guns? I will try some other ammo, but this spread is much greater than what I am looking for, and the gun does not accept chokes.

This isn't unusual. The 18" cylinder choked barrel for my 870 gives about the same performance. Certain ammo can tighten the pattern. I've found the Federal Tactical Buck to be tighter in my gun something I ascribe to the harder, copper plated pellets. For buckshot, I prefer my 20" barrel with an IC or even a modified choke which keeps the pattern together out to 25 to 30 yards.

Thanks!

I will try some different loads and see how they do as well. I know every barrel is different, but I was expecting to keep all 9 pellets on at 15yrds. I will let you know how some other loads shoot thru the same gun.

Average is meaningless here.
Each individual gun is different.
As are different loads.

You never know till you test your rig with an assortment of loads.

Sam nailed it. There's so much variance in patterns with buck that few rules apply. My guess is that testign will give you patterns both better and worse than those you have.

Buy some 5 packs of various brands and have at it. When one appears best, fire a few more patterns to make sure and then buy lots of it.

HTH....
