What's it worth? Derringer Pistol

Hello everyone,

It's my first post here, and as I've been reviewing other threads, this forum seems to have a knowledgeable posters.

I am curious if anyone can give me a reasonable ballpark estimate or offer on an antique gun that was handed down to me from my grandfather.

The Markings on one side are: Derringer Philadelphia.
On the barrell: Dikar Spain- .45 Cal. Black Powder Only
Serial# 226143

I found it interesting that there seems to be 2 different materials making up the barrel, where the serial # is. The first numbers, 2261, are very faded, and in a more "brownish" color of metal, and the 43 is in much better condition, with the metal being slightly darker. Not exactly sure why it is like this.

I could only attach 3 pictures, so I went with both sides, and the barrell. I tried several times to get a clear shot of the markings on the barrell, but they wouldn't come in clear. Hopefully you can see the difference in metal I'm talking about, where the serial number is.

I would appreciate any feedback. I've been watching the show "Pawn Stars" a lot and it really perked my interest when I remembered I had my grandfather's old gun.

Even if it's worthless, I'm open for all criticism and opinions.

Thank you very much.

A lot of them were sold as a kit in the 70's & 80's (but could have been available long before or after). You blued/browned the barrel, stained the wood and put a couple of screws in to complete the job. You'd have to make up a really good story & find a really big sucker to get $100 out of one. I have 2- one like yours & one with a longer barrel. $100 for the pair would be doing real good ;)

Find several of them on GunBroker.com. Book mark them wait and see what they close at. Whatever they are sold for is what they're worth. Dont be in a hurry. Do that for a month, or so.

The people who sell stuff on Pawn Stars are Idiots.

So when the expert tells you it's worth $1000 at acution, why in the world would you sell it to the pawn shop for $500 DUH!!!. Put it up for auction and try for the $1000.

When ever I want to buy anything, I either go to ebay or gunbroker to check the fair market value and possibly pick up some tips on features & history.

Wow, great advice guys.

I totally agree about the Pawn stars thing. People there are just looking to get back to the craps table ASAP. but anyway....

I appreciate the reference to gunbroker. THe only difference is I know this gun was from around the 30's-40's. I'd rather just keep it if its worth less than 100$, heheeh

Thanks again gentlemen and I look forward to more discussions. This forum is interesting

It looks exactly like my cheap $70.00 reproduction kit gun, right down to the sloppy fit of the hammer being not centered on the nipple, the hammer is to far forward and mine would not set off the cap reliably, I had to do a bit of tweaking on it to make it work.

First off, it is not an antique. As somebody else said, the gun was from a line that was marketed by several 'manufacturers' during the late 60's, to 70's and 80's. Jukar is the maker from Spain. Dixie Gun Works and CVA were two places that sold these guns. Current purchase price of the Derringer is about $149.00.

However, it will generally not bring that price on a resale. More like others said.

The Doc is out now.

At least one clue that this is not an original Henry Deringer pistol is the use of the double "r" in the word Derringer.
