Hi guys.
Any idea from the experts will be highly appreciated I got as a present a colt Python in ALMOST perfect shape, seems to me it hasn't even been fired at all, has five tiny rust spots, but no wear at all in any of the parts.

The serial of the gun is 12262 so that puts it on the chart being manufactured in 1960.
It's bluefish with brown handle and 4 "barrel
I really don't know much about this so any idea of what it might be worth would help a lot as I'm planning to sell it.

Thanks!

I think the 4" bluefish, brown handled Pythons are the rarest of all. ;)

All kidding aside, I would think that it would sell in the $2000-2500 range pretty quickly. 4" guns are worth a bit more than the longer barreled models.

The rust spots will detract from the value though. Whatever you do DON"T try to clean them off unless you know what you are doing. and even then I would leave them for the next owner to deal with.

I have seen more guns ruined due to an ignorant/uninformed owner trying to "clean" them up.

All Colt prices are through the roof lately. 2K - 4K seems to be the range depending on barrel length (shorter is better) condition, and age (older is better). I think a 1960 Python would have the early target stocks that are nearly completely covered with checkering. these add to the value.

I'm hanging on to my Pythons as my retirement fund.

Not the early style stocks.

Unfired adds but you really need the box to make an unfired gun pop in collector's eyes. look at the cylinder face for evidence of being fired.

I tried to purchase one of these at a local Gun show a couple of weeks back. The guy wanted $3,500 and would not take a penny less. Python prices are through the roof right now. Someday I will own one but not willing to pay that price for a used firearm right now.

3K+ is the norm...

And yet apparently Colt can't make a new one and sell it for a profit?

All Colt revolvers are sky high...and Colt can't put any back into production?

Other than S&W registered Magnum

The Colt Python is THE .357 that sits atop the heap for collectors.

Prices will reflect that fact.

The shop I work at just bought a 6" blued Python (no box) yesterday that was as clean as I have seen for $1,200.

I would imagine two things keeping Colt from making Pythons again:
1) Lack of skilled labor to make hand fitted double action revolvers.
2) Steep negative slope of demand vs price line.
