What's happening to me???

In less than a month, I have bought TWO revolvers... a S&W 586 and now a S&W Model 29...

I never thought myself to be a revolver guy, but I'm suddenly extremely good with the idea... my semis are sitting neglected in the safe, but I'm also almost scared to shoot the 29 because I don't want to damage it.

I guess it's just a phase... maybe semis don't do it for me anymore?

Unless you handload some wild and crazy overload there is no way you will damage the S&W Model 29 by shooting it - that is exactly what it was made to do! NG Bruce

bokchoi...

" What's happening to me???"

Dunno, but it sounds like something good! Two great S&W revolvers in one month sounds ike a good start to a revolver collection.

:D

Funny how S&W revolvers have such an effect on people. Same thing happened to me after I bought a 625-6. Now all I can think about is getting a 9mm revolver to go with the .45 acp.

Looking to ad a 3" 33 Spcl 696 and a 629 4 inch
to my collection. There's just something about a
Smith....at least the old one. Just bought a 60LS
but that's more for practicality and everyday usage not pur pleasure like the others. Have several Rugers also and two krunchentickers.

Me too

I was pretty much a semi shooter until I got the s&w 27. I've owned revolvers, but something about the N frame makes me take it everytime I go to the range. I'm hoping the gunstore sells off the m29 I look at everytime I go there, the temptation is that bad:D . The big plus is not having to chase & pick up all the auto's cases for reloading. Maybe its an age thing......

BTW I already bought the .44 mag dies & started squirreling away cases:p

Thank goodness! I thought I was the only one with this sickness...

I bought a 629 Mountain Gun last year and have a Smith addiction now.

I have since added at 442 Centennial, and lust after a 625 and an old M&P.

My life will never be the same... :)

Hum... if hard pressed to diagnose your condition, I'd have to say you've got a naiscent case of class and sophistication.

Buy a new revolver a month, and check back with me in a year.

I used to be one of those "Everything needs to be tactical" guys, throwing a huge fortune at an HK SL8-4 at one point , before I realized that used but extremely good condition revolvers can be had at a fraction of the price of even used semiautos.

Now I've discovered the joy of classic revolvers that they don't make anymore, and I'm almost sad that the revolvers I have with the blueing deep enough to fall into aren't made anymore... we need start a campaign to bring those back :)

I hear ya man!!

hell, I'm only 39 but recently noticed that most all the hi-cap and all the pistol-gripped rifles are long gone and I'm down to only one auto pistol.
I have always enjoied a nice .357 revolver and my first was a 4" Security Six.
it's also long gone

......... but 10 years or so ago while living in Hawaii (and being a bit pissed off about the recent so-called assult weapons ban) I felt the need to just go out and buy a gun. I came across a Wesson Firearms fixed barrel compensated .357 in a gun mag and went down to a local gunshop in Honolulu and ordered a 6" one up. Thinking the whole 'compensated' thing was just hype I was not expecting too much. BOY was I wrong and the barrel turned out to be 7.5 inches overall because the expansion chamber was actually milled out of the shroud with some upward vents just behind the front sight....... and there is a cap that screws onto the end bringing it back to .357. A little longer than I wanted .........but the system works and there is almost zero muzzle jump with greatly reduced recoil. You can squeeze one off and still be looking down the barrel at your target for the next shot!

A few years back Dan Wesson was back in busniess and while watching Austin Powers 2....... I noticed that towards the end, Fat Bastard was waving around a huge stainless revolver with the same compensation system!!

I went right to the Internet and found Dan Wesson web site but was dissapointed to find the big .44mag not yet in production. I traded in my Ruger .44mag Super Blackhawk orderd a 6" one up a few months later from my local shop and am just in 'revolver' heaven now.

1/2 the recoil with 1/3rd the muzzle jump and way-more accurate.
$860.00 though (ouch!)

here is a link to the promo shot of the 4":

a new problem has come up now though
........with the old Blackhawk shooting 3/4 a box or so of .44 mag was the end of your shooting day. But now with the new DW .44 (named Fat Bastard for obvious reasons) I can run through a box of rounds quickly and comfortably and go looking to open another box!! Needless to say this has driven me to finally start realoading after 10 years of puting it off.

fwiw--I also have one of those powder blue titanium Taurus .357 snubbies that has become my primary go-to gun for home, car/truck and woods duty, after displacing a Glock 30 from the job.
