I hear ya man!!
hell, I'm only 39 but recently noticed that most all the hi-cap and all the pistol-gripped rifles are long gone and I'm down to only one auto pistol.
I have always enjoied a nice .357 revolver and my first was a 4" Security Six.
it's also long gone
......... but 10 years or so ago while living in Hawaii (and being a bit pissed off about the recent so-called assult weapons ban) I felt the need to just go out and buy a gun. I came across a Wesson Firearms fixed barrel compensated .357 in a gun mag and went down to a local gunshop in Honolulu and ordered a 6" one up. Thinking the whole 'compensated' thing was just hype I was not expecting too much. BOY was I wrong and the barrel turned out to be 7.5 inches overall because the expansion chamber was actually milled out of the shroud with some upward vents just behind the front sight....... and there is a cap that screws onto the end bringing it back to .357. A little longer than I wanted .........but the system works and there is almost zero muzzle jump with greatly reduced recoil. You can squeeze one off and still be looking down the barrel at your target for the next shot!
A few years back Dan Wesson was back in busniess and while watching Austin Powers 2....... I noticed that towards the end, Fat Bastard was waving around a huge stainless revolver with the same compensation system!!
I went right to the Internet and found Dan Wesson web site but was dissapointed to find the big .44mag not yet in production. I traded in my Ruger .44mag Super Blackhawk orderd a 6" one up a few months later from my local shop and am just in 'revolver' heaven now.
1/2 the recoil with 1/3rd the muzzle jump and way-more accurate.
$860.00 though (ouch!)
here is a link to the promo shot of the 4":

a new problem has come up now though
........with the old Blackhawk shooting 3/4 a box or so of .44 mag was the end of your shooting day. But now with the new DW .44 (named Fat Bastard for obvious reasons) I can run through a box of rounds quickly and comfortably and go looking to open another box!! Needless to say this has driven me to finally start realoading after 10 years of puting it off.
fwiw--I also have one of those powder blue titanium Taurus .357 snubbies that has become my primary go-to gun for home, car/truck and woods duty, after displacing a Glock 30 from the job.
