What's better? G3 clone OR AK-47?

I found a good deal on auctioned rifles. I've decided I'm going to get one of these: Slightly used AK-47, post-ban, black synthetic stock (looks really cool) 3 30 round mags w/pouch and sling. Owner claims it is in good condition, hardly used. Price: $360, w/ shipping included.

-OR-

H&K G3 clone made by Federal Arms (FA). New direct from manufacturer. Milled scope mount. .308. That's about it. Price: $425'ish I pay shipping.

So, what's better for the price? I need reliability and flexability. I tend to be neglectful in all honesty and try my best to keep guns clean at all cost like anyone else ...but not always. Availability of parts is an issue. I'll be using this rifle a LOT. I can go through 500-1000 rounds in a day if I have nothing else to do.
Who would get which one and why? What is your personal oppinion?

get the ak...i got the fa91 but i never worked right and i havnt sent it back to factory yet, though i have heard good things about the ones that do work. id say go for the ak or if you get the FA91 ask for proof that it functions properly.

im thinking on mine it might be related not to the reciever, but to the used g3 parts(trigger group and bolt)

Since ammo is cheaper for the AK, and it won't beat you up so much firing 100's of rounds a session, that would be my choice. I have an HK-91, and that sucker is a kicker for such a heavy gun. I suspect it's the roller locking action, doesn't tame the recoil like a gas gun. The tiny stock butt doesn't help the comfort of shooting the HK either. :)

now there's some good advice. I'm thinking AK too. The small buttstock was a turn-on. If it doesn't work then screw it.

The ammo for the AK is cheaper than G3? You sure?

7.8 vs. .308

I believe you. I just don't know the prices myself. Enlighten me.

And you can usually find Wolf steel-cased ammo for the AK for about $80/1,000 at most gun shows. While I wouldn't use that for an AR, the AK's seem to do just fine on a Wolf diet.

Rifles

I have a Romaonian Sar-1 and i also have a Cetme wich is pretty close to the G3 clone. Both are fun weapons and have been very reliable.

Sar-1
Pros: Lightweight, cheap to shoot, easy to break down to clean, mags are cheap.
Cons: crudely made, accuracy so-so, buttstock is short when compared to normal guns.

G3
Pros: Accurate, cheap mags can be found, pretty good stopping power.

Cons: Heavy, hard to clean.

Sorry, I can't tell you which to buy because I love them both, but I would lean towards the G3 first and pick up an Ak clone later.

thanks a lot for all the advice. It helped. I decided on the AK. I will after tomorrw officially be the proud owner of an AK-47. Woo-Woo

AK "intended capacity" magazines are much cheaper then HK mags.

FWIW: I wouldn't pay more then $10 for NEW 30 rounders.

where do I get more mags? Do I have to hunt around? Are they common in gun shops? Does anyone have some they want to sell me?

If you goto Shows you can score 7.62x39 for $70 a 1000 for Wolf ammo...

GOOD GOOD Surplus 308 will be about 170 for 1000. (Though you can get lesser quality stuff for less)

Mags for an AK run about $8-$10 for NEW 30rd mags.

another thing: What are some cool assesories to get for the AK-47? No bayonet lug, so that's out. Post-ban. Has typical AK-47 scope mounts. Generic fiber stock.

One thing I want to get is a recoil pad. I also want to get a 4X or 6X scope. Are there any good bi-pods out there for the AK?

If you don't have any gun shows near you, you can buy an issue of "Shotgun News" and browse through it. Many mail order companies have decent price mags.

A few months ago ,I think Inter-Ordnance has the best prices for 4 new mags in a pouch with cleaning kit and sling.

Surf the net, maybe you'll find a good price somewhere.

You don't need a recoil pad for a standard stocked AK. A thousand rounds might make your shoulder a bit sore.

You might look at a "Cobra" red dot sight.

A bipod would have to be pretty tall to deal with a 30-rnd magazine. TAPCO should have one or two types of bipods.
