Whats a fair price?

I have a Remington 700ADL in .308 that a buddy of mine wants to buy. The rifle was manufactured and purchased in 1990. It has an old Tasco 3-9 scope on it, I know thats not worth anything, and I had a decelerator recoil pad added probably 7 or 8 years ago. I probably havent put more than 300 - 350 rounds through it. Today is the first day in at least 3 probably closer to 4 years that it has seen daylight, just so I could snap a few pics. The blueing has no marks and the wood has two smallish scratches on the bottom just forward of the trigger guard. I looked at prices on gunbroker but the spread on them is fairly big, anywhere from just under 300 to 650. What would be a good price to charge a friend for this rifle?

Probably around $350 - $400 with the marks on the stock. I almost bought a BDL 270 a few months ago for $300 OTD (as new) at a gunshop. But that was a low price which I didn't bite since I already own one in 270 win and didn't feel like trying to re-sell it.

Around here, $300. Wouldn't pay any more than that for a 700 ADL unless it had something pretty special about it, like fantastic wood. Especially since I can buy a Rem 700 at Walmart with a cheap scope on it for $389.

But isn't that with a synthetic stock?
Yes, but it is a new rifle, no screwdriver marks in the wood. Just for reference. Unless there is some special reason to get the ADL (fantastic wood, flawless finish, desirable chambering, etc), used will usually sell for less than new.

Thanks for the replies. 300 was about what I was thinking. Seems like a price that will keep us both happy as I am also including 70 rounds of ammo and a nice case. Thanks again for your input.

I'm certainly not encouraging you to charge your friend more just because you can, but around here an ADL in that condition would likely go for $350-400. Then add in the bullets and case on top of that. The older ADLs have a better reputation than the new ones being sold at WM (at least they do with me and my circle of gun nuts). If I was your friend, I would feel like I was getting a killer deal at $300.

But like you said, as long as everyone's happy in the end.. $100 isn't worth loosing a friend over!

IMO its worth $350 I would much prefer it to a new Rem and I also prefer the ADL mag. In fact I'd offer to buy it if the bolt was on the correct side ; )

And the scope isn't "worthless". It's on the gun and assuming it is sighted in and is in good repair. A lot of deer have been killed with cheap Tasco scopes.
