What would you do?

I am open to suggestions for a nine that can be carried VERY discretely. I work in an office whose official decree is no firearms on the premises, not even in your own car. Since I work the night shift and don't get off until after 10pm, and due to the fact that of about 20 employees, only 3 are males, and that we have to walk through a dimly lit parking lot about 7 min away from the building, I have been told that the UNofficial and accepted order is "don't ask, don't tell, don't show, don't know" from my supervisor (who himself leaves around 7pm). What would any of you carry, the only criteria being a reasonable price since this will be my 3rd gun. It will be carried everyday so holster considerations are welcomed also.

Makarov: Cheap, heard good things about them.
Kel-Tec P-11: Small, cheap, some problems with reliablilty. Ugly DAO trigger.
Glock 26: Bigger than some, can't go wrong with a glock.
J Frame .38: cheap, reliable, concealable, 5 shots and you have to carry a speed strip or speed loader for reloads.
I prefer the Glock 26, it's not that hard to conceal, think day planner carry, very reliable, light enough to carry all day, tough finish. Although more expensive, it will last forever and a day.

First off, get yourself a good quality pepper spray, and have it in your hand when you walk out of the building.

Next, you've gotten some good suggestions already.

If you're looking for really concealable, though, consider dropping back to the Kel Tec P 32. VERY small.

If you really feel that you want or need a 9, consider a Colt Pocket 9, a Glock, a Karh, or a Kel Tec.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

Kel Tec P32, Glock 26 or 27, Kahr K9/K40 or P9 (Polymer) or compact MK9/mk40, Taurus 85 revolver.

Regarding Mike Irwin's suggestion to carry a stout dose of pepper spray in your hand when you leave the building, make certain you always carry that spray can in your NON-GUN hand. You never want to clutter up your gun hand. FWIW.

Since you limit us to a 9mm, I'd have to suggest the Kel-Tec P11. While I haven't shot either, I'd advise it over the Taurus Millenium (it's closest competitor) due to my experience with shooting a few earlier Taurus products (although in fairness, I've heard Taurus is getting their act together).

The Kahr P9 is the thinnest and lightest of anything out there, save for the now discontinued Colt Pocket Nine. The Kahr has a MUCH better trigger, and excellent customer service that is rarely needed.
A belly band, or a suitable ankle rig would be the choice for DEEP concealment. Access is not easy unless you have BOTH hands free. Better to remove the pistol and tuck it into your waistband or pocket on the way out of the building. BTW, I use and reccomend the ASP OC keyring. I tucks down into my waist unobtrusively and can be used as a Kubotan or flail also.

I think you'll find that the Kel-Tec at 14 ounces is lighter than even the 15.8 ounce polymer Kahr 9mm. The all-steel MK9, Kahr's smallest, still weighs 22.1 ounces. All data taken from manufacturer's web sites.

The Kar and Kel-Tec are both good pieces. If deep concealment is the issue, the Kel-Tec is not only lighter, but can be had with a belt clip on it. You can just push it down your waistband and clip it to your belt or even the waist of unbelted trousers. No holster bulk to give you away. It will fit in a pocket holster like an Ahern Natural.

The Kahr, on the other hand, has a much better trigger pull. The Elite Series is even better than the already good standard Kahr. It may be a bit much for a trouser pocket, for IWB check out the Milt Sparks Executive Companion.

The Kel-Tec is significantly less expensive than the Kahr everywhere I've seen them.

BTW, your employer should look very carefully at the liability implications of the night-shift parking situation.

Let me first ask if you are female?
Some of the answers so far seem to be more male related.
If female:
-There are purses and bags made w/ concealment slots that are very good.
-There are also the day planners as mentioned before.
-Taurus does make a very fine product now and their model 85 revolvers w/ bobbed hammers are hard to beat for price, quality, and ease of operation.
-Knowing your average daily type of dress is really needed to suggest holster types.
-All of the 9's suggested are good but shoot them at a range where you can rent them first.
-If you wear skirts at times in the office, many of the carry modes mentioned wont work.
The belly band and the Kramer shirt holster will, though.

I would ume that you are comfortable not carrying your piece while in the office working. If so, pick a method that you can carry into the building and back to your car that is the same every time, or one of two methods, so that you can practice your presentations(draw) and be profficient in using them.

Thats all I can think of for the moment. Good luck and let us know if you have more questions or needs.

Dave

Make sure it isn't windy with that pepper spray, or you will essentially be handing a gun to your assailant, along with the rest of your valubles, maybe even your life.
