(For the USA Readers)

You get a knock on the door and you hear some yelling...You open the door and it's your friendly neighborhood black uniform-ski mask-combat boot-MP5/AR15/M4 in one hand pointed at you, waving with the other hand representing SWAT/FEMA/BATF/Army Rangers-National Guard/UN or Foreign Troops. He tells you that according to your national ID card / north american ID card / newly raided gun shop receipt of purchase / firearm registration database / tip from a brownshirt neighbor or your kids etc indicates that you own a firearm and that it must be turned in for The Common Good / To Keep you Safe from crime / To stop shadowy al-qaeda from attacking at any moment / world peace.

The 'official' informs you that lying to him or refusing to comply results in 'mandatory public service' or jail / confiscation of your property.

What do you do?

I apologize that this question was already posted, but the way I phrased it may introduce other discussions making the thread different from previous ones.

I'd give them over. All of them, with ammo. Unfired.

I can't fight against that type of force if it is presented to me by surprise.

I would then buy lots of strike-anywhere matches. And I'd make a trip to the hardware store. And I'd build lots of single-shot zip guns.

And I'd organize a group of folks to waylay a small patrol of JBT's and take their weapons. I would then have unregistered weapons.

Unlike a few folks on here, I have the guts to use my right to revolt agaisnt a tyrannical gov't that violates my CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. Noone is going to take my legally purchased firearms from me when I've done nothing illegal. Should I choose to fight them, will I have made a difference? I highly doubt it. The media will brand me as a right wing nutjob. Oh wait, they already have made us evil in the eyes of the public.

But for me, There are things worse then dying that can and will eat at a man.

OOPS, sorry. Didn't realize the suprise part. I'm with the above gentleman for waylaying the JBT's and getting some new stuff. Basically, I'd fight it. Maybe not at that present moment, but they'd certainly see me again.

First, no men in ski masks are likely to show up in the middle of the night looking for your guns unless they've been illegal for quite some time and you've had ample warning to turn them in yourself for compensation (whether that compensation is likely to be fair is up for debate).

At which point while your firearm might have been legally purchased at one point, it is no longer legally owned. At which point you will have done something illegal; owning the firearm in question.

Also, saying "constitutional rights" in all caps does not suddenly transform the entire argument into a black and white debate in which you are obviously right. An entire forest has been killed writing books, articles, legal briefs, court decisions, and laws regarding this issue. The language of the amendment is at best vague, and at worst downright cryptic.

There's a process in this country that does not involve flying lead to determine what is and is not constitutional. At present, some pretty draconian firearm regulation has been declared to be constitutional. And regardless of your (or my) opinion on what the second amendment is trying to say, if the Supreme Court upholds something as constitutional, it pretty much is. So if an outright ban on private firearm ownership is passed, and the Supreme Court upholds it, so be it. I'd prefer it come through a constitutional amendment, but our founding fathers were foolish enough to write the first one so vaguely that it's probably not strictly necessary.

Heck at that point I don't feel that this is America anymore. As I am a natural born citizen with nowhere to go.....heck what do I have to lose at that point?

Most countries have a pretty straightforward immigration processes. Might not be easy, and you might not meet the requirements for all of them, but there's no reason you couldn't start looking around.

Also, how does the idea that a body of our government could do their job and interpret a portion of the Constitution in a way that is not strictly counter to the language make this "not America" anymore? I'm sure people said the same thing when people were no longer allowed to own people, when women got the right to vote, and when prohibition was passed......well, to be fair on that last one I can see where they were coming from.

But seriously, I can kinda see where you're coming from...but on the list of things that make this country not look like "America" anymore, the slowly dwindling right to keep and bear arms is probably towards the bottom of my list.

I'd ask for a warrant and ask why he wears a mask: Was he burned by acid or something?

No, they just do that now. Gives off that friendly, "protect and serve" vibe.

I hear a lot of people saying that they would give up their firearms. That is ok. I cannot judge what others do. However, if everyone simply gives up their firearms because they fear to stand against the government, quite literally we will be a disarmed people. At some point, in all honesty, someone has to take a stand.

I would not give up my firearms. They would either have been hidden already, or if they are not, then I will fight for my rights. I will probably end up dead but at least I will have stood firm in defense of our right to keep and bear arms.

I will die on my feet, thank you.

If the founding fathers had handed in their weapons we would still be part of Britain.

A couple of things right off the top of my head.

1) This is a basic SHTF scenario and has nothing to do with the Legal & Political forum.

2) In the worst case, this thread is calling for armed insurrection.

Generally, either situation calls for a thread lock. Added together.... :o
