The bottom one is a Savage photomanip with a Remington shroud cut and pasted on it... Just to show how nice they'd look if Savage would actually design them like that...
I think the Savage looks better the without the shroud... The shroud just makes the bolt that much longer when you cycle and run the chance of hitting yourself in the face unless you lift your head and lose sight picture...
Is the stock in that picture a Savage stock ? I have never cared for savage as I thought they were the ugliest things ever created. All of the wood stocked models I have looked at appeared to be made of sage brush but that rifle pictured is quite nice.

I'm sorry, but I've never had issues with hitting my face with the bolt of a rifle.
Just where, exactly, are you putting your face?
Then again... I don't shoot Savages any more. So, if it's a Savage, I wouldn't understand.
Warbirdlover... that still wouldn't get me into a Savage. The safety is stupid. The bolt is overly complicated (let's add more parts, since it's cheaper to build that way...). Everything they make is overpriced. And... The ergonomics are all wrong. I think Savage builds their rifles for mentally handicapped three-toed sloths with deformed arms. They don't fit humans very well.
If some one tells you their Savage fits them like a glove, they are:
A) A three-toed sloth.
B) Deformed.
C) Lying.
D) All of the above.
Putting a shroud on that Savage bolt , with the handle dangling out thare on the tail end isn't much of an improvment . Kinda like putting lipstick on a pig !
