What would be the Ubdermaximum Critter Death Dealing Projectile in the 6.5x55?

Todays loads:

Lapua 140 Naturalis
Lapua 156 Mega
Norma 156 Alaskas
Barnes TSX 130s

Obviously the most accurate one is getting used, but interested in seeing what bullet real hunters (not armchair dilletantes like moi) like.

Don't suggest TBBCs, I have never seen one that shoots.

My goal is a deadly bullet that shoots five shots touching out of a light sporter.

BULLETS !!!!!! 6.5x55

I use the Sierra Gameking and Pro hunters mostly in 140's. Last year I used the Berger VLD 140 and was just awed by the way it killed Deer. We don't have anything larger than a Whitetail. They really do a number on Them. Try some Bergers, You will be Happy with the results.:):):):)

When you say "a light sporter" what is that? A new production rifle with a short throat or a Swed configuration [long throat]? Is the twist rate Swedish or something else??

I just got a CZ and I too would like a go-to for all NA game that clover leafs the holes. :)

Best,

Husqvarna 1640 steel floorplate model (30-06 originally) rebarreled with a 24 inch Pac Nor barrel in a Hi Tech stock. Twist is 1:7.5.

I am doing the throat work right now. So far I got 130 TSXs with 46 grains V560 to shoot five shots into .875, it was too cloudy to consistently chrono but I got 2800 fps out of the same bullet with 46 grains of RL 19 which should conceivable give a bit less velocity than V560. They were book seated to 3.150 and that was jammed into the lands so they got to be seated a bit deeper, Im going to measure

Naturalis 140s shot to 1 3/4 (and some was me) with book depth 3.012 and 47 grains of V560 for 2620 fps, the book gives 48.1 as max for 2694. I think the depth is short, Im going to run it .007 off the lands.

The 156 Alaskans shot OK, the megas shot like crap.

I also found the Gamekings were very accurate in my Ruger. Had good luck with 140g Corelokts too, effective on Reds!

Dunno that you'll do better than the TSX(s). But RL22 might be better than RL19 (Assuming RL22 history lead Alliant to more care in the production.) RL22 should do better with the heavier bullets. Do you have Quickload?

The shame with the TSX(s) in 6.5 is the weight. The 150 Gr .270 (.277) has a higher SD than any of the TSX offerings in 6.5. But hey, if your rifle likes 'em...they are a good hunting bullet.

OK for the bench, but not for the field up here. If I am going to get my disgusting fatbody out of my desk chair and off for deer in Kodiak where there are bears, I want them babies to feed as smoothly as silk

It may be old school but what about a Nosler Partition?

Powder: RL-22
Charge Weight (in grains) Muzzle Velocity (fps) Load Density
46.5* 2740 fps 93%
44.5 2650 fps 89%
42.5 2560 fps 85%

To light??

Ah but is that a big game bullet since it isnt bonded?
Hornady says ALL their Interlock bullets are big game bullets.

Nothing better. Anywhere. Even counting the ones from Scandinavia.

Wild, you seem to be having a lot of issues with the 6.5X55mm. Have you considered switching to another cartridge? I have a couple of 7X57mm, I would be willing to sell you one. Hmmmmmmmmm??????

Issues?...Its just the fun of finding the right combo. My Military Mausers all shoot 5 shots touching, as does the Blaser, but thats alwys with Scenars or SMKs...its trying to get these hunting bullets to work:)

And granted, .875 with TSXs is pretty good for five shots, I just want better! :)

Noslers will be up this weekend. Funny everything in 140s is around 46 grains of something :)

Ask someone on Cast Boolits forum to send a few Lee "cruise missles",a 175-180gr gas check bullet.
Of air cooled wheel weight alloy, it should shoot over 2300fps and would go to the north end of a south bound brown or moose or do an Elmer and go crosswise through 3 elk.
