What would be a fair trade?

I'm thinking about trading my s&w 642 with about 300 rounds through it for a new S&W m&p 40. I paid $469 for the 642 a few months ago and just can't find a comfortable grip on it that my wrist agrees with. I've tried a set of hogue grips and some pachmayrs and neither of them did the trick for me. I shoot the gun pretty well and the recoil doesn't bother me with +p loads, but the angle I have to have my wrist at just doesn't work for me.

My local shop has a few s&w m&p's on hand marked at $569. They have 9mm and 40. Beings I already have 2 9mms, I figured a 40 would be a little different. I can also find ammo for the 40 where I can't find much for the 9mms.

What would be a decent price to jump up to the m&p? To me they are a bit high on the pistol and I know I paid a bit over the average price for the 642. I was thinking somewhere around $75-100 might be fair, or am I off some?

You're going from a revolver to a semi-auto. Do you have other revolvers? You already own 2 9mm. I believe in diversification. Why not trade the 38spl in for a 357 magnum in either S&W or Ruger???? Then again, I am probably not the right person to comment on the 40 or even the 9mm. I'm the believe that if you only had 1 gun; and didn't own any others; then the 9mm or 40sw would be a good choice. But if you can/will have more than one gun, then don't try finding an "ALL IN ONE" gun. It doesn't exist. You have 2 9mm. Go for a revolver in the 357mag range. That's my suggestion.

I actually have a Beretta 92fs, Kahr cw9, taurus 941 22mag, ruger blackhawk 357 mag, and the 642. I'm not really looking for a do-all gun. Right now I carry the 642, but if I trade it I will carry the Kahr after I get some more rounds down range with it. If I got the m&p it would be a range/hd gun and wouldn't be carried. I would like to find an sp101 in the future to possibly carry, but they are a bit hard to come by in my area right now.

Then it's all about preference. I've paid "More" than some would for some guns because it's what I wanted. Go to gunbroker.com and see what the going price is.

I doubt you will get that M@P for less than $250 plus your 642,Give or take.
Dealers tend to be like that!
