What will happen to gun prices if GWB actually does away with past EO's and PD's?

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in General Discussion, but here goes nothing. This question has come to me while reading several threads that basically speak to the Republicans 'repealing' several gun control acts, Executive Orders, and/or Presidential Directives.

I have an honest reason for this question. If this does occur, and I'm not sure one way or the other, what will the repeal of these acts cause? We all know every time another gun control act passed, gun sales soared prior to implementation of that particular gun control act. Will sales slow because now we CAN legally purchase that 15 round pistol mag??

My real question is this. If importation of 'assualt weapons' is lifted, will I be able to purchase a NIB HK91 or HK93 at a lower cost than they are going for now? Should I wait a couple of months before shelling out almost 3 grand for a quality HK93 or 2 grand for a quality HK91???

What's your take on this? I have seen several articles that say the GWB WILL get rid of all sorts of onerous EO's and PD's. This he can do without any interference from anyone. The question is, will he? And if he does, when will he do so and how many will he repeal?? And if he does, how will this affect pricing structures and is it worth the wait?

I would hate to spend 3 grand, only to have GWB repeal said EO's and find my 3 grand now worth only 1 thousand. You know what I mean??

i am facing that dilema right now

do i buy a few NIW Center AR mags at $27 a pop, or do i pass on this deal & hope for the return of 10 dollar AR 15 magazines?

i kinda doubt that scary named items like assault rifles and high capacity (standard) magazines will become ban free.

There is too much HCI retoric backing those memes.

There is no reason to believe GWB will support the repeal of any gun law. He may let the scary gun ban die, but then again, he may not.

I would bet some money that the Bushmobile and the gutless Republicans won't repeal any of the communistnazi Federal gun laws on the books now. I'd also bet some money that they do pass a law banning the private sale of guns by the serfs, without getting permission from Big Brother and registering the sales with the KGBATF.

The gutless Repubs and the Bushmobile will be far too concerned and scared that the communistnazi controlled media will savage and demonize them for "wanting to murder children."

Just watch. J.B.

I recall reading somewhere that a new President can't just wipe out the EO's of the past Presidents. There is some oversight committee or some procedure that must be followed, and it is not an easy process. The AW ban sunsets in 2004, an election year. I doubt it will be allowed to lapse

To answer the original question...

I think the prices would drop sharply. I am optimistic about GW trashing some of those old EOs and question why some of you are so pessimistic. Give the man a chance before you hammer him! Or are you a *shudder* democrat? :o

Supply and demand ...

If onerous gun laws were repealed, the supply of the targeted items would increase. For example, let's assume for a moment that the bogus 'assault weapon ban' was allowed to lapse. That would mean that Bushmaster et al could produce new, 'pre-ban' configuration AR-15's. The supply would increase, and therefore prices would drop. And, to some degree, following an initial surge, I suspect demand would drop a bit as well - we all want what we can't have ...

Same would be true of magazines, and so on.

However, I wouldn't hold my breath for this to happen. GW is not an island. His support in Congress is thin. Put yourself in his shoes. He has to build a team, he has to build a record, and credibility. He would be foolish to start out by dumping EO's that would be a lightening rod for criticism right now.

In some ways, we have the same challenge he does. He has a 'bully pulpit' to re-educate Americans about individual freedom and personal responsibility. We have a similar opportunity. Americans need to be reminded why freedom is good.

The changes we'd like to see must come slowly if they are to come at all, and for those changes to last. I don't think that is a pessimistic, or Democrat perspective - I think that is political reality.

I don't think anyone should change their purchasing plans based upon the results of this election. Buy what you want when you can, for the best price you can currently negotiate. If it gets cheaper later, that's baseball. My bet remains that you'll be glad you made your acquisitions now. My $0.02.

I read Bush's platform, and saw the word "ban" about three times. Has he ever said anything that indicates he would like to eliminate any federal gun law? Not that I've heard. Has he said he wants to pass more? Yes.

Buy them while you can as I think its just too good to be true that any bans will be lifted or negated short of the fed court doing it like they had to with the election.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and see what he actually does.

Screw keeping our fingers crossed! The great liberal tactic is to wait for someone else to do it, and eventually when that doesn't happen, panic and make a lot of noise. It seems to work. We should skip the waiting, skip the panic, and make some intelligent, but firm noice regarding our position on RKBA. It won't just happen cause "someone should do something about that", we need to make things happen. We are America, and we need to act like it. This populace liberal states that breed or import their way into domination of the popular vote need to be reminded that the only reason smaller states stay part of their nation is that they are granted fair power and not walked all over by the other states or the federal officials.

We first off need to get a very strong base of support in our state legislature, give them power to fight the Federal intrusions. Then we need to make it clear in no uncertain terms that we'll fight unconstitutional laws with zealous attention, suing any federal body that passes or enforces an unconstitutional law. There are SO MANY times when the NRA/ILA should have sued and did not, largely because their members weren't sending money in and weren't screaming at the top of their lungs. We need to form and fund a group that agressively attacks any anti-freedom laws with a legal pickaxe. The NRA does not do this, we need someone who does. If the GOA formed such a body it would really give them some teeth. Can you imagine how terrified legiscritters would be if unconstitutional laws were passed by them in conflict to the constitution without proper ammendment, and then such action brought a furious assault of lawsuits against them personally and against their laws themselves. Can you imagine how paralized the ATF would be if every sneaky or underhanded action they took got them sued? We, the gun owners of America with our time, and our money(when able) could crush the ATF, and do so quite legally. We can do this and are not.

Worrying about Bush, and even counting on Bush is foolish. Haven't we learned out lesson? Lets make Bush WORRY ABOUT US!

"When the government fears the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny" Thomas Jefferson

We fear the government, yet right now we hold all the cards. Even if the members of TFL alone took violent action, it would throw the US into chaos, but we actually have more sophisticated ways than that, and more civilized. We can sue, we can boycott, we can vote, and we can inform. Why do we act like the victims this is our country!

I have tried in the past to think of a way to organize TFL and it's members and those like us into some strong, big-toothed legal monster that can strike down the problems of this country. We have that ability, but we aren't doing it. What is stopping us? I mean really?

Bush will sit tight and do nothing. He will campaign on holding the line.

About the ban sunset - unless the GOP takes the House and the Senate with big margins, the renewal will go through quicker than a bean burrito smothered in Habeneros.

Buy it now. Enjoy it now. As to the price. How many of you here want the Executive Orders maintained so that your guns and or hi-cap magazines keep their high value?
