What was the worst gun trade you ever made?

Mine was trading a S&W 686 4" and a Makarov for a Beretta Model 84.

Not mine, but years ago my Dad traded a Winchester Model 97 (12 gauge) for a Savage Model 24 (.22 mag/20 gauge with side opening lever). Perhaps not so bad now that some folks collect the 24, but I thought it was a crazy trade at the time. To be fair, I can't remember if the trade involved any cash. My Dad thought the 24 would make the ultimate turkey gun!

I was young and stupid and traded a NIB Stag Arms M4gery for what ended up being a Gen 1 Glock 19 in well-worn condition and an Argentinian Colt 1911 clone with what turned out to be a nonfunctioning grip and thumb safety.

Well over forty years ago I traded away my first Marlin 39A-- one of the ones with the old fatter forestock. Don't even recall now what I traded for. Bought my second one, which I still have, not long afterward.

Sales are another question: I sold a beautiful pre-B CZ-75 to buy something I thought I wanted worse. It was a nice GP-100, and I'm a revolver guy; but the Rugers are common, and older CZ's that good are rare.

Also sold a nice Smith 459 I wish I had back. Don't even remember why.

I swapped a Colt Model 70 Gold Cup for a 1943 Inland M1 Carbine to a friend. Seemed like a fair trade at the time, but I would rather have the old Colt.

The trade I regret the most was when traded my Hi Point carbine in 40 S&W for a Smith and Wesson Sigma 9VE. I wound up hating the sigma and sold it to a buddy of mine for a playstation 3. Say what you will about Hi Points (ugly, heavy, cheap, etc.), that carbine was a great plinker/HD rifle. Never had a more accurate gun out of the box.

Trade a gun? You mean, as in give it someone else? I don't understand the question. I might trade something else FOR a gun but....

I traded a few boxes of 9mm ammo recently for a 1982 Marlin model 60. The thing cant get through one tube without failures to feed no matter what ammo I put through it. I only paid $65 for the ammo so It's not all bad. I'll have to see if I can fix it... At worst it was a cheap way to start my armoring career. :p

Closing:
I bought a banged-up Marlin 60 from a guy at the club.

Even after the gunsmith put $30 worth of new parts in it, it still misfed Every Other Round, even with CCI etc.

Luckily the Romanian M-69 Trainer makes up for it, though a bolt-action.

At least I'm not alone. I just traded for it in order to have an extra plinker, at the state game area, for my sons target practice. Fortunately we have a couple other 22s for their use. I am looking to add a Marlin xt22vr bolt gun for their marksmanship training. The Model 60 being troublesome is one of the reasons I will never trade anything of real value for another firearm from a random person. His claim was that it ran perfectly, clearly it does not. The ammo was consumable and I'm sure is already used up by him. The Marlin while having its issues, I will certainly have and tinker with for a long time to come.

My worst trade and it still haunts me

I traded a Gen 4 G17 with fiber front sight, 3.5lbs. drop in trigger group and 2 mags for a Norinco CQ-A AR 15 rifle. The rifle had an Spike's handguard and a fake silencer barrel shroud. When I went to shoot the rifle it shot 2' to the left consistently. It turns out that who ever installed the handguard over tightened the barrel nut! I ended up selling the gun for $550. Never again.

I try not to look back whether it be buying or selling. I generally expect to loose money when I sell a gun that is under 5 years old relative to the purchase price.
