What to feed a Jetfire?

Looking for advice as to what to feed my Beretta Jetfire .25....Please, don't say "steroids, so that it grows up to be a real gun." :p
Like everyone else, I have more serious artillery.

Jetfire fans, what do you use?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I've read in these forums that Jetfires will digest just about anything. Use hot stuff like Cor-Bon for carry, but practice with cheap range ammo so you don't break the little guy.

I used to use anything at the range (worked fine, it's a Beretta) and Mag-Safes for carry.

But then I realized I just didn't have confidence in the stopping power it carried. Eventually I traded it in.

I bought several boxes of Hornady XTP...

..at a gun show. I think those are pretty good. However, right now mine is loaded with Magsafes too.

Dwight M S, Erich, Kentucky Rifle and Cuerno de Chivo;

Thanks for your responses. I will do as you advised. Use whatever for practice and Magsafe, Corbon or Hornady XTP for carry. "Ball?" You wouldn't be trying to take advantage of a poor "newbie," Cuerno?

Erich,
Your point about "stopping power" is well taken. It's just as I've read, that the .25 is what you carry when you can't carry.

Waiting to hear from Tamara, rumour has it she likes these :p .

Thanks folks,
Mike

I've been shooting fmj's for practice, usually the least expensive I can find & the Hornady XTP when I carry it. say what you will, this gun is a good shooter and has been 100% reliable :D

That's good to know, Kermit.

I don't known why I'm so enthused about this little gun, but your post and others have confirmed it.

Thanks,
Mike

The Jetfire is the best mouse gun out there by virtue of its reliability. I sill have mine, and I've passed on many chances to trade it on a Kel-Tec P32.

Ball works fine...with that caliber, you need all the penetration you can get. I hear that Magsafes work well, but I haven't been able to get my hands on any.

Thanks for the advice, Lendringser.

Re: " Ball works fine...." Oops. Guess I owe Cuerno de Chivo an apology, thought he was kidding.

Benton,
I've noted your recommendations also. "Fiocchi and Sellier & Bellot FMJ work well in mine." Thanks.

Kentucky Rifle,
Was being just a little bit of a
smarta** regarding Tamara and her being partial to the Jetfire. Hey, I'm from NY, "go figure."

Anyone else who is knowledgeable about this firearm, please feel free.

Thanks All,
Mike

Hornady XTP in mine. It chronographs 960 FPS out of my gun as opposed to 750 FPS for Winchester Ball. I haven't chronographed Gold Dots yet, but they look promising.

I chronographed several brands through my wife's last week.

Federal American Eagle were least consistent and had lowest KE (surprisingly) about 72 ft.lb

Winchester USA white box 50gr FMJ delivered 80 ft.lb and the lowest SD

With 32 ACP the Euro loadings from Fiocchi and S&B are significantly more potent (50% more in my P32). However, in the 25 ACP the Win USA was the most potent I tested (no Cor-Bon or Hornady)

Mike:

I seem to be the rare exception who can't get 2 Magsafes to feed in succession in his Jetfire. I exchanged some e-mail with the late, lamented Joe Zambone (Mr. Magsafe), who explained that it had something to do with the lips on my Beretta magazine being a hair too high, and that if I CAREFULLY filed down the lips with a file, they'd feed fine. It wasn't a priority issue with me, so I never got around to doing that.

Having said that--CCI ball and Hornady XTP's work flawlessly in my Jetfire. I keep a Magsafe in the tube and the rest of the mag filled with XTP's.

I'm in with what the others have said about the Jetfire being just a NEAT little gun.

JFrame...

Why don't you just buy some extra mags and find the one that works with Magsafe? If I put a file in the same ROOM with a magazine, the mag would explode in protest! :)

KR:

Thanks for the advice! I'm sure that's what I'll wind up doing.

I think my fear of performing that selfsame exploding mag trick is why I've never taken a file to it in the first place... :)

I read an article once that basically said that the .25 does not have enough energy to cause a JHP to expand and the recommendation was to go with quality factory FMJ ball and shoot at the eyes.

Like Tamara, I love my Jetfire too, but I did buy a P32 for pocket carry and now just have fun with the Jetfire.

Brad:

Charles Petty wrote an article in American Handgunner called "Battle of the Mouse Guns," in which he tested various .22LR and .25ACP factory loads from a PT-22 and PT-25 respectively. The Hornady XTP .25 averaged expansion to .35 inches at 855 fps and penetration of 7.8 inches (test medium was 10 percent ballistic gelatin at a range of 10 feet).

Now Petty did NOT conclude from any of his tests that this turned the .25 into an elephant gun. He concluded that given his choice of the two pistols/loads in question, he "would choose the .25 and load it with Hornady ammo, and then practice like hell so that I could deliver all of those tiny bullets into some part of the bad guy's anatomy where they would do the most good."

That sounds like practical advice regardless of the weapon or caliber! :)
